TLDR: Following the recent DOGE and XRP situations, and our influx of new users - I have decided to put together a quick guide on what a pump and dump is, how to spot it, how to avoid it, and what to do should you fall for one. This is just my thoughts on the issue and by no means exhaustive. I welcome comments and my biggest recommendation if you fell for one of these schemes is to accept it, address your emotions, seek support - either by those around you or here if you feel more comfortable, then commit to educating yourself.
 

Summary:

A pump and dump scheme is where a group of people pitch a coin (or stock) to other people to spike short term volume, and therefore the price, in order to profit from selling their own supply at the higher price to the newer investors.
 
How to spot a PnD:

• Promises of huge gains
  
• Forced short time frames to make a decision
  
• No discussion of risk - or questioning permitted
  
• The opportunity finds you, you don't find the opportunity
  
• Comparison to recent success stories - e.g. GME (dubious whether this will even be a success long term for individuals)
  

  Tips to avoid - see below but the main two for me are:

• Recognise emotional decision making, in yourself, and when it comes from others (people you may normally trust). You need to recognise this behaviour, and cut it out at source. To step back and breathe.
  
• Ask yourself, what are they selling me on, and why? If they find you, you are being sold. That is all there is to it.
  

 
 

What is a Pump and Dump scheme?

  A Pump and Dump scheme (PnD from here on in), is where an investor, or group of investors promote a coin they already hold (or are purchasing) in order to cause positive sentiment and the price to rise. At this point these investors will then sell their coins to the newer investors, causing the price to crash and leave the people who fell for the PnD with a large potential loss, or coins which are now worth a lot less than the price they paid for them.
These are not new and were traditionally done via phone call. If you have watched the Wolf of Wall Street, or similar films about penny stocks, you have seen this stuff in action. If you are buying, you are the retail investor who gets taken for a ride.
With the recent influx of new users to this site, and following the PnD schemes surrounding Doge and XRP, lets take a look at how to spot a PnD scheme
 

How to spot a PnD scheme?

 

• Promises of huge gains, in a short amount of time. If it sounds too good to be true, it is. In crypto (and stocks) if someone is talking to you about something, they are selling you their position. If it is positive - they likely own it, if it negative - they either want prices to fall or they hold a competitor. Ask yourself, why someone would be going out their way to tell you something is a once in a lifetime opportunity? If it was, they would be keeping it secret and accumulating themselves. These people are salesman, and you are the one buying the bullshit
  
• Linked to the above there is often a time element - 'get in quick, or you will miss it', they are relying on your impulsive decision making to jump in - they are manipulating you to over ride the logical part of your brain which makes decisions based on information and context
  
• There is no discussion of any potential risks or downsides, and you are removed from groups or harassed for asking basic questions - this is a hive mind at work, and you are being censored from raising any concern or legitimate question.
  
• There may be reference to 'how this time is different', or it plays on recent successes which are in no way comparable - e.g Game Stop - anyone who paused for a second would realise why not only was financially the short squeeze on GME completely different, but also the moral stand point was too. XRP, for example, is a centralised system which enriches the founders beyond belief. Yet these groups tried to ride the sentiment of GME to convince others to join - as a show of rebellion and alliance.
  
• Social media storms are cooked up, it seems like out of nowhere this is all anyone can talk about - when has this ever proven a successful decision? Once everyone is talking about it, you are already too late. You may not lose money, if you are lucky, but you are still the one being duped. Again this is feeding on emotion and Fear of Missing Out. There will be groups created and ran by mods who run them like cults - no talk of anything but price going up is accepted.
  
• There is a time or plan attached - e.g. Pump and Hold at 8:30. For the love of god, if this is the case, sell before then. All the leaders of these groups will have done. All of these public announcements are done again to create legitimacy and make you feel at ease - as a collective.
  
• Generally any concept of 'we are in this together', coming from a group trying to actively push up the price of something short term = PnD. You are not in this together, markets are competitive - they are survival of the fittest whether you like it or not. They want your money, when you listen to them - you are basically offering to hand it over. People invest to make money, especially when the entire premise is pushing a price up to get rich. They do not want what is good for you, they are using you and they will take your money if you allow them to. They are telling you, because you are the opportunity - not the coin.
  
• Be aware, people telling you to hold and buy more, are using you. They want you to push the price back up so they can sell. If you are in these groups - on social media, be aware you may be talking to bots, or at the least people who are trying to dump on you. When it drops, get out.
  

 
 

How to avoid PnDs in future

 

• 'Why are they telling me this?' - this is the first and main question to ask yourself. What does the person sharing the information have to gain from telling me? In this case - you invest and push the price up, allowing them to make greater profit. Understand why they would be sharing details with you - if it such a great thing, why are they sharing it?
  
• if it is a friend telling you, ask for more information - why it is doing well, what the plan is etc - if they can't explain it properly, this is a big red flag and they likely have fallen for it too.
  
• Look out for how someone talks to you about it - is it emotionally driven, does it make you excited? scared to miss out? - This is exactly when you need to step back, breathe and ask yourself if you are thinking correctly. Emotional decision making is not a good thing here, and then ask if they are intentionally trying to get an emotional reaction out of you? (see the above - FOMO, get rich quick etc)
  
• Is there any room for nuance? Are you able to discuss the potential cons or risk? If you are laughed at, or harassed, others are told to ignore you (he won't be getting rich, weak hands, pathetic seller) - this is a huge sign that you are investing in something where no other thoughts are allowed. The reason for this, once you are out the bubble - logic returns and you see the smoke and mirrors for what they are. PnD groups work like a cult, only one form of thinking is allowed, everything else is censored.
  
• Did this come out of nowhere, do I even know anything about this? If you don't know anything about it, except it makes money, don't invest in it. This is a terrible decision for two reasons. Firstly, and most obviously, you have asymmetric information - you have no idea why and what you are buying, therefore can't make an informed decision - only an emotional one. Equally, this kind of thing pushes panicked, emotional selling. When you don't know fundamental reasons why you invest in something, when the price dips you will sell. Why? because when your brain asks you the question 'shit it is dropping, what do we do?!' - your logical brain won't have an answer, because you never gave it the information to form one. This second part is more relevant to regular investments, not PnDs of course, but is worth bearing in mind before you invest in anything.
  
• Was the coin relatively stagnant, or has it dipped recently? PnDs typically target coins which haven't moved much recently, or have lower trading volume, this allows for a much easier spiking of the price due to a small change in demand equalling a big change in price. If you look at the charts and it was doing nothing until this big flurry of activity - you are being taken for a ride.
  
• Look for the news, if it is pumping, don't listen to people inside the group - search for reasons why something is pumping. If you can't find anything of value, there probably isn't anything, and you are gambling on emotional decisions.
  
• The opportunity finds you, you don't find the opportunity. Getting rich off 'undervalued' coins, or finding a hidden gem is not easy. They are hidden for a reason. If someone is coming to you with this, remember they are selling. You are buying.
  
• If someone does approach you, talk to someone else outside of the bubble - find another group e.g. CC, or other investors - talk to them, get outside perspective before investing.
  
• look for examples of populist sentiment. Do you hear things about an other? - e.g. haters, those missing out who are jealous. Are you made to feel like you are part of a special group? The ones with insider information? This is a lie, it is very very common manipulation within populist movements, cults etc - to create a narrative of an other to entrench tribalism within the group. This is done to make you switch your brain off, to rule on emotion.
  
• is there a recent comparable story that was successful? e.g. GME (yes this isn't the same at all in reality, but the story being sold is - or at least plays on the hype of GME). If there is, you are being played. The real opportunity, just like the hidden gem, is the first one. When people tell you this is happening again, they are simply using the positive news from one case and applying it to their own - often because it lacks any actual, real, tangible reason for succeeding or being a good investment.
  

 
 

I fell for a PnD, what next?

 
Have you sold yet - No? Are you in profit? Sell. Whilst you still can. Greed will tell you not to, and perhaps you can eek out a little more money. But you are gambling, and gambling extremely high risk against people trying to take all your money.
 
Yes, you have sold. Did you make a profit? Yes - great. You are still a an idiot, just a lucky one. Tell yourself that. There is a difference between opportunist traders taking advantage of PnDs and someone getting lucky and getting out before it collapses. Do not confuse the two. The first group know what they are doing (and they may still lose, but they are aware of the real risk). You are fucking lucky. Don't do it again. So count your blessings, go through the same process of learning about PnDs and begin to understand why you fell for it, how to avoid it in future and realise you are up - you won. Don't go back in, you are asking to lose.
 
Yes you have sold? Did you make profit? No? Ok, this is normal - 90% + of people doing this will end up in the same situation.
 

• Recognise and accept your mistake. Do not feel ashamed of it, it is ok. You were played, it happens to all of us in our lives at some point.
  
• Step away from whatever device you used to invest. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO WIN IT BACK RIGHT AWAY. You will most likely make things worse, investing again on emotions - even worse emotions now, shame, anger, disbelief.
  
• Talk to the important people in your life if you feel comfortable, if not, come here or to other anonymous groups for support. It is important to share what happened, to vent emotionally whatever it is you feel.
  
• Realise it is only money, even if gambled way more than you should have done, long term you will get out of this. Focus on other areas of your life for the time being - emotional investment, fulfilment and development - seek out things which may centre to your emotions again, whatever that may be - getting out in nature, cooking, reading, adrenaline sports - whatever the shit you need, do it.
  
• Consider who, if anyone needs to know. Did you borrow from you and your wife's joint account? Accept a loan from a mate? These people need to know the truth. Do not hide it and hope to win it back. Tell the truth. They deserve it.
  
• Do not repeat the same actions, if you want to win long term from this - you need a different approach. Step away from the high stakes casino and figure out long term strategies to make money.
  
• Learn to diversify and manage risk. You are taking a huge gamble going all in on something - even if it isn't a scam, you need to protect yourself through diversifying your investments. Get rich quick schemes are the fastest way to lose money.
  
• Educate yourself on these behaviours - I would recommend 'Thinking Fast and Slow' by Daniel Kahnemann as a personal favourite. This book helps to look at and address the biases that make up our emotional decision making, and learn how to recognise these and instead 'think slow'. You won't regret reading it.
  

I've thought alot on gaining poweprogress on an account, and the best way to accomplish it. Then extrapolated a little from my other experiences to come up with this. Please realize that almost the entire guide excludes Light/Dark in any regard.
TL:DR Version: I have tested and managed an e5 two times now in under 5 months. It should be even easier than when i did as since game has gotten alot friendlier. My luck was not good nor bad. Just takes doing the goal oriented things below. Saving what you should save. Spend when you should spend. Feathers really are important for this. Its also very important to prioritize the feathers in events. Get 240 Casino coins, 80 POs, or 500 HSs THEN spend them to complete said event. Don't use them before that since you lose out on the feathers. Once you start building a supply of feathers, don't spend them until you can fully build the hero. Next is focusing on 4★ shards for most of your growth. Last is DON'T BUILD HEROES YOU WON'T FODDER. Do these and even you can do it. I know its a bit of a read, but this whole thing does work, but you can't cherry pick the parts you want to do, and expect it to not take you longer, in some cases alot longer.
Keep these heroes until you know better what you are doing:

Starting

The idea behind this whole post is to focus efforts towards the earliest most efficient E5 you can make. The power of an early E5 vs a team of 6x 10★ isn't really even comparable. The E5 will wipe the floor with them in every way. More specifically an E5 of one the best heroes in the game will carry your progress well beyond any other strategy after its made. No hero does everything the best. Therefore, we want to pick as good a hero as we can, without waiting forever. We still need to get this made in a reasonable time frame so you can build on your progress.
So once again the idea is to go all out for ONE hero. Don't level anything you can't sacrifice. ALL Prophet Orbs, Prophet Branches, Feathers, Guild Coins, EVERYTHING that is a resource and can be used to progress your E5 will be used for your E5.

The Basics

Lets start with the basics by breaking down Hero ★ ranks. The basic unit is a 5★ building block. Heading over to the Creation Circle, we can turn some 5★s into 6★s. Once at 6★, level the hero to 100 and promote it. Then the promotion tab becomes active on that hero. The rest of the promotions will be done here. Requirements below:

Looking at this we can see that we will need to get our E5 hero to 9★, three 9★ fodders, and three 10★ fodders. That's 304x 5★s if i did the math right. That is alot of 5★s.
So here is the basic plan.

• Step 1: Pick and build good 10★ Fodder Heroes
  
• Step 2: Pick an E5 Hero, exclude all other potential heroes.
  
• Step 3: Complete events specifically with Feathers in mind.
  
• Step 4: Steal Underpants
  
• Step 5: ???
  
• Step 6: Profit
  

The most common ways to majorly slow your progress seems to come in 2 forms.
1.) You feel you need a full team of heroes with lots of stars. 2.) You struggle with the long view and build non fodder heroes.
So let me just say once again. You don't need a full team. You need 1 good hero. If you decide on a hero, stick with that hero.

Picking the E5 Hero

This is your first E5, once made it will be your only hero for a time. Because of this, it needs to be a solid hero for carrying your progress from that point on while you start on your next. I used to rate heroes on a per Category basis and weight the results for a best hero ranking. That takes too much work. So instead of that non-sense i'll just tell you who i would build.
1.) Tix 2.) Inosuke 3.) Garuda
Try to build 1 of those 3. Tix and Inosuke are a bit better than Garuda, but she is still very solid if you happen to have alot of copies of her. You can always build the other 2 next.
Picking your E5 hero is probably the trickiest part of this whole thing. The several month building process gives you time in which your fortunes can change. So here is my advice. Build Norma to 9★ and use her for early game. Start working on 10★s of other decent fodder heroes. In that time, if you pick up 2-3 of any of the three heroes i listed, just lock in and go for that hero. I also don't count the Imp Adventure Chest as picking up a hero. I'm talking through PO, HS, Super Casino, Random Holiday Events, Heroic Miracle, or Altar Event. Keep the Imp Chest a Chest until you pull the trigger on deciding which hero you are going to make. Once you decide on a hero, you can open the chests. Feathers should never be used until you can promote a hero to E5 the exact moment you spend them. If you are still building Fodder or the copies don't add up to 9, you don't spend feathers. The reason is because we really only want to spend feathers on this first hero for speed. After this first hero, feathers should be solely for Light/Dark hero copies or 400 Feather P2W Artifacts. So the less you can spend the better. It is still worth using them at the right time for your first E5 though.
If you aren't sure where to orb, i would suggest one of 2 things. 1.) If you have any copies of the heroes above, try the faction you have the most of. 2.) If you don't have any, pick Fortress. It has Inosuke and Sherlock. Both are great. Shadow basically only has Tix. Forest has Garuda and Rogan which are good but aren't quite as good as Sherlock and Inosuke.
At the moment Inosuka and Tix are probably the most useful heroes. Therefore if you have no copies of any of the other listed heroes, you should just start your aim there.
Once you get an E5 hero, you don't start filling in your team with a bunch of crap low star heroes. You start the process over again on a new hero. Though maybe this time include Light/Dark as options. You really shouldn't ever be building anything that isn't going towards an E5 Hero, other than maybe HeartWatcher and Sigmund which are generally fine at 10★ or E3.

To make an E5 hero, we need three 10★ sacrifices for the last steps. So it helps to make those useful heroes until its time to sacrifice them. Which of these heroes you build will depend on luck, and the faction you choose to use Prophet Orbs on. Each faction has a few worthy 10★ heroes listed above.

Streamline the Fodders

The fodder process needs to be focused on building only 1 Non-Fodder Hero to E5. That means leaving all other God Tier Heroes unmade and in Token form if you can help it. This will stop them from taking up a hero slot. Good to get in the habit of keeping heroes in Token form until they are needed. That being said, any hero i didn't list at the very top of this thread should be put to use making 10★ fodders. No need to save them if they aren't on that list.
The biggest mistake newer players make is underestimating the power of 4★ Shards and not picking them up at every available opportunity. The importance of 4★ Heroes IS HUGE. It is the basis for 75% of my growth. You build the shard numbers daily, in small amounts. By the end of the month, they add up to thousands. On top of that, with the monthly Fusion quest, the first 20 5★s you make reward you gold, which you will need. They should be picked up at every chance. Here is where to find them.

• Marketplace: 30x Shard for 1.5m Gold (pick up 3★s too)
• Seal Land: Smash daily for the most you can (after 10 or so buy 3x extras smashes)
• Event Raid Hero Challenge: Spend gems for extra completes here. All that you can EVERYDAY.
• Tavern Quests
• Aspen: The Lady Dude sells 30x Shards for 1.5m Gold

My Monthly Progress:

1. All month long, do everything to build 4★ shards
2. Once Heroic Miracle comes around
   • Use all my Heart Summons, destroy all 1★ and 2★
   • Use all my Random 4★ shards along with 3★ shards to form 5★s
3. Keep forming 5★s until i can turn them into a 6★
4. Once i have three 6★s of the same faction a. Collect 9 more 5★ fodders of that faction b. Collect 1 more copy of one of the 6★ heroes c. Craft a 9★
5. Use 5★ Random Summon Shards a. You want to collect 5 of any of these heroes. b. If you have 2 copies of any of them, make a 6★ c. Make a 10★ with said hero

I know what a short is. This isn’t a literal one, but it’s the closest thing I can think of to describing what’s happening. Forget I called it a short and just read the damn post.
Mods at dogecoin deleted my first post. This is the truth about what happens to your money when you buy cryptos on robinhood. Robinhood is inflating the hype to get everyone to give them money for their pump and dump scheme on the crypto market. They have no obligation to buy doge and they probably won’t either. Spread the word.

READ THE TOS

RobinHood moves your money to another company after you make an order to buy the crypto. After that, it disappears. You are only left with a CREDIT from them (not an actual coin, so there’s no proof they purchased it for you) saying you can come back and exchange the credit for money. They are not purchasing DOGE on your behalf. They are letting you throw money at them, and you are not affecting the price with your purchases on RobinHood.
They never mention once that they have an obligation to purchase the coins for you on an exchange and hold them. If they bought doge, they’d lose money once everyone pulls out because they’d have to sell the coins faster than the people are selling on their platform.

TL;DR: robin hood is taking your money, shifting it to another company that has no obligation to purchase the thing you wanted, and robin hood gives you an iou. ROBINHOOD IS NOT PURCHASING DOGE ON YOUR BEHALF AND IS PROBABLY DOING EVERYTHING THEY CAN TO KEEP THE PRICE DOWN.

Remember this above all else. If they sell you the coin, but you can’t use it on a different website, you don’t own the coin and your purchase had no effect on the price. You probably helped them lower the price of DOGE without even realizing it
My prediction is that doge will have a small rally after Monday (volatile day) then Tuesday is shaky if not complete plummet. but never explode like expected. All the other cryptos will slowly grow over the weekend into the week (from robinhood pumping) then all the cryptos will crash near the end of the week. If you buy the coins on a different platform and transfer it to your wallet, then the prices will move up and STAY up. That’s how we win this.

HUT CENTRAL
First off we have a scroll-through menu on what new content is out.
New content; packs, and players gets released every week day at 5pm EST , unless it’s a Holiday - then we’ll get the content a day earlier.
You will see when the content is out of packs by the timer and the date on the banner shown - Winterinternational Players released Monday were a week long to pull.
We will see new events come into HUT bi-weekly. This event ends soon, so we will see a new Event next Friday at 5pm EST.
Team of the Weeks are Wednesdays at 5pm EST. Available for the Week.
HUT RUSH
What else is there on HUT Central? You can go directly to HUT RUSH game mode by going to the banner using the left stick, highlighting it and clicking “X” or “A”.
HUT Rush is 2 game modes , normally one is Traditional Hockey gamestyle, and other is Arcade Hockey gamestyle with “moneypuck” attached.
Play games, win, get points, rank up in tiers. Get rewards - instantly. You can net 18.5k in coins, and 2 and a half gold collectables normally — or 100 Gold Players for 3 Gold Collectables, once. — willl talk about later. This is a limited time set, ending Tuesday @5pm EST.
Objectives / Milestones
You will also be available to see what Objectives / Milestones are close to completion. Click on this, and you will be shown the “Daily” Objectives. If you do all these, you get a Monthly Collectable, and 1,250 coins for the day.
Weekly Objectives are the same thing, finish all those up within a weeks time (Friday at 5pm EST - Friday at 5pm EST) and get a cool 5k, plus an Untradable Premium Pack - worth 7,500 coins.
Milestones have infinite time, do those for coins, players, packs. Do them all? Get yourself an Icon or Gold Collectable. — I’ll talk about these later.

Solo Play

Under Solo Play there is Squad Battles , and Challenges.
What is Squad Battles?
Squad Battles is playing your team against the A.I. for points. The higher difficulty; rookie, semi-pro, pro, all-star, superstar - and opponents OVR - i.e., 77 or 88 - the more points you can obtain. To get max points, score 5 goals, and have 20 shots on net. Points will increase as more people play, and get updated weekday, 5pm EST. The more games you play, and win the higher the rank you will get. Aim for at least Pro 2 , which is 4-5 games.** Squad Battles resets on Wednesday - 5pm EST and you will receive your rewards on Thursday at 5pm EST. —- some people still don’t know this, so have that memorized and you’ll know more than some people.
Squad Battles affects your win-loss ratio, and Players Stats
Squad Battles rewards you in Tradable Packs, Coins, and HUT Sweats CHAMPS points
Challenges
Challenges are a great way to earn a coin stack, and receive free packs - usually earned at the second last - last challenge in the “Event Challenges”. You will also receive Monthly Collectables throughout doing the Event Challenges.

• Whats unique about this event is that by getting 3 stars, you will earn a Winterinternational collectable!! - will talk about later!

If you opt not to do these Event Challenges, there are “offline” challenges to do - Starting at Rookie, and ending in Superstar you can net a free 200k for doing them all!! It is time consuming, but it’s 200k worth!

What is Rivals?
Rivals is playing against people online. PS+ or Xbox Membership is required in order to play online.
Play your first 5 games, get entered into a Division.
Do well - win lots in a row, and you’ll be able to go up in Divisions. This gives yourself better, and bigger rewards. Want to get those rewards in a higher tier, but you’re afraid you’ll lose the division? Hold off, and don’t play. Rivals resets Tuesdays at 5pm EST, Rewards available Wednesday at 5pm EST.
Each game gives you points, as well. You get more points winning than losing, duh. More points will net you better rewards for the week. I normally just aim for Gold.
You can choose from Tradable packs, Untradable packs (2 times the amount as tradable) or coins.
Play a friend
You can play your friend in HUT. They will obviously use their HUT team, and you’ll use yours. You can use expired loan players in this. Make up your own rules, and have fun!

Auction House

Buy players, jerseys, logos, coaches, arenas, cellys, jersey numbers, goalie masks in the Auction House. You can also sell your own, as well. Simply click on the “Auction House” . You can change the category by clicking “X/A” and scroll over to your designated category you want to buy. - Also filter out the things if you want a specific player, or event.
You will have the option to click down and sell players, view them in the next tab and see how much time is left, and also see what price they go for at the very end at the “Sell Transactions” - it will show you what you’ve sold, and by clicking “R2/RT” you will have a timestamp, going back a week, month, year, or all-time. Clicking “L2/LT” you will see your sold items, and expired items — if they didnt sell they’ll go here.
• Since you are new?? There is a “Market Crash” happening right now. Load yourself up with “Base” 84+ cards for cheap - Mackinnon, Kane, McDavid - best Base player - Hedman, Vasilevskiy, etc., —- Tall goalies are “meta” , as well as “speedy” players. —
I would also suggest buying TOTW Players, they will rebound in price.
Sets
Do your re-rolls what even is a “re-roll” ? A reroll is trading in 8 of a specific “level” to 2 of the “next level” players. For example 8 Bronze Players to 2 Silver Players. 8 Silver Players to 2 Gold Players. Lastly, we have 8 Gold Players to 2 Gold Players with one being an 80+ Player. I would not suggest doing the Gold -> Gold reroll
You can also trade in Monthly Collectables you get from the Daily login for a Free Gold Collect / Icon. This costs 30 Monthly Collectables. You can also get packs, or a 80-82 player. You can get 2 per day - Daily Pack you get every 24hrs, plus doing the Daily Challenges.
When a player gets 50 Gold Players, you can lock those into a Gold or Icon Collectable. Each will help your team in various ways, lets look at it.
There is a set right now under “Winterinternational” where you trade in 100 Gold Players to 3 Gold Collectables, I highly suggest this, especially as a new player - redeemable twice
—- The Winterinternational Collectables from the Event Challenges gives you a free Gold Collectable or helps with building a 91/92 random player, or specific player. For the free Gold Collectable you need 21 Winterinternational Collectables. —
Icon Collectable - Untradable Master Icons. 1 Icon Collectable is an 85 Master Icon. There’s 84-89 OVR Master Icons available. Each one requires more and more Icon Collectables.
—- Master Icons will eventually go to 99 OVR. Will require more Icons. Lower OVR Icons will need more Icons to get to Max OVR - 99. Higher Icons - Gretz / Lem. will require less.
To get Lemieux / Gretzy it is 7? Icon Collectables.
Gold Collectables - Tradable / Untradable Event Master Set Players (MsPs). Less Gold Collectables will net you an Untradable MSP , More Gold Collectables will net you a Tradable MSP. You can also get yourself specific 92 MsPs this event by doing their tasks. — They are Untradable. —
Normally I go Tradable, and sell them for more coins. This allows you to build your favourite team the fastest.

Base & Premium Packs are always there. Base packs are 5k coins, Premium Packs are 7.5k coins. Every other weekday we will see a new pack enter the store. New Events bring more packs, containing specific stuff. One guarantees a Gold Collectable, and a Winterinternational Player. Since Boxing Day is today, there are packs out for it!! These packs end on Monday at 5pm EST.
A player can also buy packs by purchasing “points” to purchase points, click the Triangle or Y button in the store.
To see how much a pack is in “points” it is the Green Circle “Pucks” besides the coins. Currently the guaranteed Winterinternational and Gold Collectable pack is $25.

You can change your strategies by going to “Manage Lineups” and “Strategies”.

Free Beginning Tips

• HUT is not a race. Be patient. Better cards will be out every month , OVRs will increase.

My hints?

• PLAY THE GAME YOUR WAY!! BUILD YOUR OWN TEAM!! Use your favourite players for maximum fun, happiness, and enjoyment. So what if no one else uses “said player” its your team - not theres. What works for you may not work for them, vice versa.
  
• Before hitting into a game, click R3? This pops up what Ping you wanna use. It’ll try and find a game below or at the ping you set. If you dont find an opponent within 30 seconds, you’ll be finding an opponent out of this ping zone range.
  
• Use your 100 Gold Players for the 3 Gold Collectables.
  
• Play up on RUSH to try and get Max Tier for the free 84 for your team. This will give you 18.5k , and the 100 Gold players needed for the 3 Gold Collectables.
  
• If you can, try and do the 100 for 3 Gold Collectables, again. This will give you 6 Gold Collectables.
  
• Play Squad Battles, and Rivals. Take UT (second option) for Rivals. This will ensure lots of Gold Players for Gold Collectables. (I always choose UT, even if my team is stacked. You can’t change my mind on doing anything different.)
  
• DONT go for Lemieux or Gretzky. Yes, it is your HUT Team, but don’t go for it off the bat. I’d suggest a tradable MSP - then you can use the coins to play the market, and buy your Master Icons that you want.
  
• Buy Base Speedy players - Doughty, Duchene, Mackinnon, Kane, etc., whoever floats your boat. All are cheap nown
  
• Buy TOTWs for Profit.
  
• Save on Gold Collectables. Have enough to get your first tradable MSP and sell for your coinage.
  
• Save up coinage. Try and do Daily’s every day.
  
• Spend coinage everywhere, one “Star Player” will not help your team.
  
• World of Chel also gives you HUT items, every 10 items if you feel burned out.
  
• Cross - Creases are so normal way of scoring, its no need to get mad about em now, use em to score if theyre open if you wanna play that way, too.

1. Luck of Probability: All "understandable" events of chance will now be much more in your favor. This applies to anything that has a clear, mathematical probability of its occurrence. Essentially, all coin flips go from a 50/50 to an 95/5 chance in whatever you call, but you'll still have the same luck in, say, finding love. Casinos are your best friend with this perk, but be careful not to get thrown out for being too lucky.
2. Luck of Protection: You and all your loved ones will have much higher luck in living long, healthy lives. Any happenstance, random danger you haven't gone out of your way to get involved in, such as being in a plane crash or catching a disease, will never occur. This does extend a bit to danger you have directly caused, so while you won't die from challenging someone to a fight, worst case you will end up in the hospital for a while. You'd have to extremely dumb to not live a healthy life to 100 years old. This power extends completely to 5 loved ones of your choosing, and lightly protects everyone else you form a bond with.
   
3. Luck of Discovery: You will have an extremely easy time searching for whatever you are looking for. The applications here are fairly broad, as long as it's certain to you that whatever you are looking for is out there somewhere. For instance, if you want to look for love, people you are compatible with will start appearing regularly in your daily life. However, if you wanted to search for money, you'd find something like a lucrative investment opportunity, rather than just a bag of gold.
   
4. Luck of Saving: The subtlest, most universal choice. This perk will slightly increase your luck across the board, but will always work out for you in times of great need. For example, you will be slightly luckier when it comes to avoiding diseases, but you'll probably still catch a cold on occasion. But in those dire moments, like if you ever get in a car crash, you'll come out unharmed. Don't push this, though. You can use this perk to win a couple rounds going all-in at blackjack, but eventually that luck will run out, and will take a couple days to come back.
   
5. Luck of Impossibility: Impossible events will suddenly become possible with this perk. Every season, around the solstice or equinox, an absurdly lucky event will occur for you. These events will be very unpredictable, but will always be extremely grand in scale. Think finding a lost jewel worth millions, or a famous director randomly choosing you to be the next star in their upcoming movie. It might not be exactly what you want every time, but it will always be incredibly lucky.
   
6. Luck of Control: This is the only perk that will not change your luck in any way. Rather, this perk lets you choose one of the above 5 perks, and lets you gift that chosen perk to 5 other people of your choosing. You can choose to revoke these gifts and change who you give the perk to at anytime. The only caveat with this perk is that the luck will never work to directly benefit you. For example, your parents can get lucky and win a new house, so long as you don't live in it. For any of the 5 people you can also choose to give them the reverse, bad-luck variant of your chosen perk, with none of the aforementioned caveats.
   

I am seeing lots of the same "don't invest what you can't afford to lose", "don't fall for PnDs", "read before you buy anything" - and while these are all important lessons, I feel like there is one that is going unspoken and it's one that is at the very heart of cryptocurrency and that is actually using it.
What I am going to suggest now is in no way investment advice, you don't even need to spend any money for this, but it will get you to see how crypto can be used and the real world effects it can have.
I'm using Nano for this explanation - there may be other coins you could try this out on, if so, please feel free to name them in the comments. But by the end of this, you will have set up a wallet, received crypto and, if you like, sent crypto. These are fundamentals to a concept that is aiming to replace fiat. And you will do this without spending a penny.
First, google Natrium.io and open a wallet there (they don't have desktop but you can do it on your phone). The iOS app is very nice and user-friendly, I can't speak for Android but I imagine it's the same. They won't ask for any personal information. They will give you your seed (DEFINITELY write that down and keep it safe - we are just doing a little experiment here so it's not essential right now but it's best to develop a good habit of keeping all your keys).
Then go to one of the Nano faucets. A faucet is like it sounds. A little tap which slowly drips very small amounts of a crypto into your wallet. Just once mind you, you can't turn them on and let them run $$$ into your pocket. nano-faucet.org is a good one but if you google 'nano faucet' I think I remember a couple of others. All you have to do, is go onto Natrium, press 'Receive' and it will give you your public key. This is an address which you can give to people and they can send Nano to you. The address will look disgusting. You won't think it's worth typing it out. But if you're doing all this on your phone, just copy and paste it. Then, on the faucet website, complete the captcha and paste in your public key that you just copied, and voila - within minutes you will have some Nano in your wallet. It will be a tiny amount but it will be something that you own, is in your control and that you can send to someone else if you so please. As Nano has no fees, you won't ever lose any of that amount to the network, just to those you send it to, who receive 100% of what you sent.
Now you have your wallet and you have your tiny bit of crypto, we get to the most difficult part of the process. Go and find a friend. This could be a family member, your best bud, your postman - basically any human being with a phone. Walk them through this process that you have now mastered.
By this point, you will now be two people with tiny amounts of a crypto in your own wallets that you control. You can then try to send each other some crypto. Just like you did with the faucet, press "Receive" and if you want to be super high tech, you can get the other person to scan your QR code (hello future) and then they put in how much they want to send you. With Nano, the transaction should complete in under 1 second. And voila - you just sent/received your first ever crypto transaction without spending a penny and without any bank or custodian.
Once you have recognised these basic steps, you will be much better prepared to invest in the future. You will understand "not your keys, not your coins", you will want to understand fees paid to networks (where does that money go? well it depends on the coin, so you will have to read into that) and you will realise that crypto is not just an investment, it's something that actually has a use.
For the old heads in here, let me know below if there are any other coins you could do this with just to get a feel for crypto. I'm not a Nano shill, I haven't invested in Nano, I just think it's hugely useful as an instructive tool for crypto in this case. And I certainly wouldn't suggest investing in Nano if you're just entering the space - BTC and ETH are essentials for beginners, but you need to understand how they work before you put your money into them and this process should give you a good outline to the processes involved and the concepts.

Tokenization means emitting tokens and assigning them a specific value. Physical tokens have long been used to represent money. Some examples are casino chips, cheques, banknotes and coins, prepaid gift and shopping cards, as well as coupons. Tokens are also used to protect credit card information where the primary account number is replaced with a randomized number, called a token. Thus, we have been using tokens in many forms and for a very long time.
Tokenization is also a new form of crowdfunding for companies and a new opportunity for investors to participate in promising projects at an early stage to benefit from their growth and future profit.
Tokenization allows to divide one ownership right (e.g. to a factory) into individual tokens. Since tokens have up to 18 decimals, it is very easy for investors to support your company by buying a fraction of the shares in the form of tokens. Tokens can also be connected with a project, used as loyalty points, means of payment, etc. All these transactions are immutable and always transparently accessible on blockchain, which serves as a public ledger.

Let’s have some examples of the most expensive stocks in the world as of February 5, 2021.

It is apparent that the prices of some shares can be prohibitive. Many people can’t even start thinking about buying any of these shares.
On the other hand, a token can have up to 18 decimals. Thus, one quintillionth, or 10-18 (or 1e-18) is the smallest unit: 0.000 000 000 000 000 001
If the above-mentioned shares were tokenized, you could buy just a fraction, for a price accessible to anybody.

Examples of Tokenization

Let’s bring in some simplified examples of businesses that can be tokenized.
Forest: Say, you own a forest or a forest nursery worth $100,000. You need some money, but you don’t want to chop the trees down to sell them because you still want to let them grow to realize a bigger profit later on. You can prepare 100,000 digital tokens, where each token will represent 0.001%, or 1/10,000th of your forest. These tokens will be made available on a platform supporting smart contracts. Typically, these will be ERC-20 tokens on the Ethereum platform. From now on, anybody can buy any share in your forest, with some owning, for example, dozens of trees, and some owning just a fraction or a part of a tree.
Animal farm: You can proceed similarly with your farm animals worth e.g. $1,000,000, emitting 1,000,000 digital tokens, where each token will represent 0.0001%, or 1/100,000th of your farm. Some investors can own 10 cows, some will invest into a fraction of a cow which is easy to do, thanks to tokens.
Manufacturing plant: You can print 1,000,000 (or any other volume) digital tokens, each representing an equivalent part of this production factory. The investors can buy any share in your enterprise, from a big volume, down to a small fraction of your enterprise.
Real estate: You can emit tokens in the volume representing, for example, your office premises. The investors can easily invest into just a few square meters or square feet. Also, you can easily offer just a part of your premises to investors.
These are just a few examples to give you an idea how tokenization can be used. Any type of asset can be tokenized, including funds, equity, real estate, debt, etc. You can probably immediately see how effective this process is, cutting out all the paperwork and intermediaries. On top of that, everything is immutable and transparent on the public blockchain.

Tokenization: Connecting Issuers With Investors

Tokenization bears several advantages that fundamentally improves market access for asset holders and investors. Besides reducing the general costs of issuances, tokenization improves both the access and the attractiveness of assets. Let’s see the advantages both for the issuers and for the investors.

Most of this guide from last year still rings true. Nearly all of my predictions were correct in terms of what was good to sell, hold, or buy.
To find the good players to flip, you want to put yourself in the shoes of potential buyers and think about the cards that you would want to use for your ultimate team:

• Synergies: Does the player have a team synergy that boosts skating speed or shot accuracy? He'll be worth more than others.
• Position/Stats: Right handers tend to sell for more because there's more left handed options. Do they also have a good faceoff rating? Do they have good shot accuracy? Do they have high speed/acceleration/agility? Is the player over 6'3" and 220lbs+? All these tend to raise a players price.
• Overall Rating Using NHL 20's model, if the player is 83 overall and under, their price quickly went down each day after general release. An 82 is worth like 10k during early access and day 1 of general release, but then quickly plummets to be worth only about 2k. On the contrary, every card rated 84 overall went up in price from general release onward until about 1 month into release, because more coins entered the market and caused inflation.

How to make guaranteed profit with little to no market knowledge
Instead of just saying buy low and sell higher, there's an easier guaranteed way to explain how to make coins in HUT.

• Buy in the hours shortly after reward distribution for Squad Battles/HUT Champions/HUT Rivals/Competitive Seasons
  
• Sell when nothing is going on in the game
  

It's so easy to open those squad battles/HUT champions/CS packs moments after they're distributed and just list the pulls on the marketplace at their current price. But if you just wait a day the market will be much higher for those cards and you could make about 30% more than you would by selling your cards on a reward distribution night.
One thing is always guaranteed with the HUT market... it recovers absurdly quickly. Within just a few hours the market will rebound to normal, especially overnight.
In NHL 20, Squad Battles rewards came out Friday ; HUT Champions, CS, and HUT Rivals rewards came out on Wednesdays. What I typically did was buy literally anything priced low at the 59th minute mark on Wednesdays right after reward distribution until I was at 0 coins, and then sell them the next day (Thursday) and do the same thing on Friday and sell on Saturday-Monday.
The 59th Minute
The 59th minute is where new cards are listed for sale and people "snipe" cards with a buy-it-now price lower than usual. To get to the 59th minute I usually just set my auction filters to "Gold rarity / Max buy-it-now as many coins as I have", then just spam R1/RB until you get to the auction listings at 59 minutes 59 seconds.

• You can refresh the 59th minute listings by just tapping back and forth between pages with R1/RB and L1/LB
  
• You can also flip the synergies of the cards by pressing up on the right joystick so you can tell what cards you've already seen. This will also alert you of brand new card listings.
  
• You can use the time it takes to begin buying a card to mentally process if the card is a good value buy or not. Fast fingers and thinking is the key to win the 59th minute.
  

But how do you work the 59th minute? If you go to the 59th minute with zero knowledge about player prices, you're going to waste your time. Instead, just focus on a few players within your price range. You can flip pretty much any card, if you know their prices.
To start out, I usually recommend low overall base defensemen and centers like Erik Karlsson, Brent Burns, Giroux, Stamkos, etc. Just get familiarized with their prices during normal days and immediately after rewards are given out. For example, Erik Karlsson at the launch of NHL 20 was usually a 30k card on a normal day, but when rewards came out he was usually like 15k-20k. I'd just target any Erik Karlsson listings under 20k and buy them at the 59th minute and then relist them for 30k overnight or the next day(s) until they're all sold. That's like 10k-15k profit on each one I won.
How should you spend your time during EA Play and Early Access?

• Spend all of your coins on players rated 84 or higher. A card like Crosby will be only like 70k during early access because nobody has coins and everyone is opening packs (high supply, no coins in circulation), but once general release of the game occurs his price will rise to around 150k and you'll be able to sell him and work the market even more with the profit.
  
• Participating in the exclusive EA Play/Early Access competitive seasons. Just by qualifying you get access to free pack rewards.
  
• Completing the exclusive EA Play and early access challenges. These help build a coin stack and will also give you a lot of free packs which can help build up your team.
  
• Save a few minutes of EA Play 10 hour access to login every 24 hours for the free daily login pack. This will give a +1 towards the lengthy milestone, and give you some free cards and coins.
  
• Buying packs: I'll plug this repost concerning the casino effect. If you want to buy packs, do so at your own discretion. It's by far the easiest and best way to get ahead early with a coin pile, especially at the beginning of the year when the average coin value of each pack is at its highest and everything is in demand.

I took the money and spent it like a good boy (or did I save it — can’t remember). This event in human history taught me to question money and financial markets. Investing was clearly a mental game.
Around the same time, in a computer lab somewhere in the world, a man named Satoshi was writing code. His little project was nothing new. It used cryptography which had been used many times before. Satoshi wasn’t doing it for profit.
The clue to Satoshi’s dream lied in the first block that was mined on the blockchain technology he invented. A few, known as the Cypherpunks, experimented with the currency for the internet he created. It was an interesting experiment. Nobody thought it would go anywhere.
Several years later I came across Satoshi’s experiment. It seemed like a noble cause but there was just no way governments would let his invention succeed. Satoshi was two steps ahead. He hid his identity and made his blockchain something that could never be shut down.
To shut down his creation meant shutting down the internet.
Governments tried to ban his invention though. China was the first. They thought they succeeded. Then its citizens decided to move trading digital currencies to “over the counter.” (This term means transacting face to face in a public place or secure office.)
The dream was to have money be borderless. All you needed was to remember your 12-word passcode and you could go anywhere in the world with your money. Cash and gold were different. You couldn’t go in and out of an airport with cash or gold and not be questioned. There were limits.
Satoshi’s invention had no limits. His vision was off-limits to small thinkers.
Those who took over Satoshi’s invention let greed get the best of them. Satoshi understood greed — it led to the 2008 financial crisis.
Satoshi planned for greed, too. Several founding members of his technology attempted to change the code he had created (known as forking). Satoshi built in consensus. He made it so 95% of the community had to agree for the change to become effective, knowing humans would never agree to do it if they understood what he’d truly created.
The “fork experiment” to change his code failed several times. Greed was proven to be an inferior force to his code.
I discovered Satoshi’s experiment a few years in. I was instantly fascinated with the idea of what he built. I had my doubts about the technology surviving. Still, I began investing money in the technology. The more I looked into it the more I understood: this was Web 3.0.
Ownership on the internet was a problem. Satoshi’s technology was a bold move to shift the power back to the internet user. The question was simple:
What if the users owned the network?
What if the users who worked on building and maintaining the network got all the rewards, not a few fat cat business empires?
It took me a while to understand. Internet money was one thing. Changing how humans got paid, transacted, and owned the work they created was a revolutionary concept. Money controls society. What if you could change money to change society for the better? I was infinitely fascinated.
2017 came around. The hype bubble around internet money exploded. Even the lunch lady was talking about what Satoshi created. Tulipmania had set in. The invention was still an infant, not ready to be exploited by adults in suits.
The price of Satoshi’s dream plummeted. Everybody called me stupid for investing. I endured two years of people telling me how dumb I was, especially because I worked in a bank and should have known better.
Ignorance was bliss.
I ignored everybody’s advice. They weren’t qualified. They didn’t know what this was. I spent hours and hours getting my head around mining, block rewards, competitors, new types of networks that were emerging. I went to meetups. I heard from businesses who accepted this strange form of internet money. I tried the test ATMs that allowed you to buy and sell this internet money.
Still, people said “you’re a sucker. Haven’t you learned your lesson?” The insults hurt.
The critics were real. They were temporarily right.
In 2020, the problem Satoshi solved finally had a use case. Interest rates went to zero like he predicted. A random health crisis became the excuse for the collapse of financial markets. Returns on assets like bonds plummeted — even paying negative interest rates in some countries.
Savers were smacked in the face the hardest. Interest payable on bank accounts went to virtually nothing. Everyday people who maybe had never invested in financial assets got to see the problem now, too.
Where do I put my money? became the question of 2020.
When the health crisis struck, governments printed trillions of dollars as Satoshi predicted. In 2008 the US government printed $1.3 trillion. In 2020, they printed $3 trillion with trillions more needed. No inflation was felt.
All the extra money ended up in the stock market, driving stock prices to new highs — despite record unemployment, a collapse in global GDP, an out of control health crisis, and oil prices going negative.

7 Days to Die Alpha 19 Newbie Guide (PC Version)
I've seen a number of posts looking for a "how to play," or "introduction," to the game. This is my attempt to write one.
At the beginning of the game, you wake up video-game naked (i.e., in your underwear) and completely ignorant. Your goal is to survive, which is made harder by a) your nude ignorance, and b) the fact that you're living in the aftermath of a combined zombie/nuclear apocalypse.
Your character has four on-screen meters showing your status: food, water, health, and stamina (or call it whatever you like -- fatigue, energy, etc.).
Food and water levels go down unless you eat or drink something. They go down faster if you're doing something that burns stamina (like running). They go down faster if you're too hot or too cold (which is usually only an issue in biomes like desert or snow when you're not properly dressed). They can also go down faster with certain health effects (like getting dysentery -- I'll talk about these effects in a second). Run out of food or water and you will die. (Pay attention to the status bars; in real-life survival situations, regularly getting water is more important than food, but in-game, they both matter.) (Pro tip: Food and drinks you can make yourself are better in many ways than canned goods or basic crops.)
Health is just like in any other video game. It goes down when you get hit, or fall, or step on pointy things like spikes or cacti. Run out of health and you die. Eating food, using certain medical supplies, or just waiting will cause health to go back up. Again, certain health effects may nerf your health bar.
Stamina shows when you're tired. If you run out of stamina, then you can't swing weapons or tools, run, jump, or do other elements of an active post-apocalyptic lifestyle. The good news is that your stamina comes back faster than health while waiting. Drinking improves stamina recovery, and eating gives a temporary boost to maximum stamina. The bad news is that you will be using stamina constantly as you go about your day. (Pro tip: Check out the various beverages in the game to find stamina benefits -- particularly red tea and coffee, also known as the mining combo.)
Alpha 19 has a variety of different health effects that can hamper your food and water consumption, your health/stamina recovery, your maximum health/stamina, your speed, or your ability to use tools. Dysentry comes from eating rotting flesh or drinking unboiled water. Don't do that if at all possible. (Pro tip: You can eat animal fat and snowberries -- or yucca fruit in the desert biome -- if you run out of food in the first couple of days.) Other de-buffs come from injuries. The good news is that if you click on the icon showing the effect, it will bring up your character with info on exactly what you need to mitigate the effect, e.g., put on a splint or a cast to speed healing from a broken leg. Two particular health effects worth calling out are bleeding and infection. If you're bleeding, your screen will flash and your health will keep dropping. Use a bandage, medicated bandage, or medkit to stop it. ANYBODY can make bandages from cloth, so keep some with you. Infection refers not to gangrene, but to the dreaded zombie infection...a disease so horrifying that it helped usher in the fall of civilization. The ONLY way to cure this dangerous disease is...to eat some honey or take an over-the-counter antibiotic. Really, infection should only ever be a serious issue in the first week. (Pro tip: using an ax on tree stumps has a random chance to drop honey.)
Encumbrance: You have a fixed number of inventory slots. You will note that three rows are clear at the start of the game, while the final two rows are not. Those extra rows represent encumbrance, and filling them up will significantly slow you down and increase your stamina usage. Try to avoid that outside of cleared or safe areas. You can increase the number of non-encumbered slots with clothing and armor mods, or through the Pack Mule perk. I recommend finding or making pocket mods ASAP and skipping the perk, though a single level in the early game can make things easier for newbies. (Pro tip: Some items, like most raw materials, food, drinks, medicines, etc., stack in inventory; some items like clothing, mods, and weapons do not. Smart inventory management when looting and salvaging will keep that in mind: do I really want to pick up that pair of shoes, or hold onto that dirty water that will stack if I find more?)
All right, now that the basics are out of the way, how do I get better at surviving? The answer to that is two-fold. 1) Learn how to do more things. 2) Get better stuff.
How do you learn more things? You get experience points (xp) from almost everything in this game. Eventually, when your xp bar fills, you will gain a level and get a perk point. You can use that to select perks, which all have various benefits. At the start, you will get a series of basic quests that serve as a mini-tutorial, and you will gain 4 perk points from finishing them (make sure you complete them!). (Pro tip: Upgrading blocks, e.g., turning flagstone walls into brick walls, is an exceedingly generous way of earning xp in Alpha 19; using a hammer on a block will tell you what material is needed to upgrade it.)
Which perks should I pick first? Well...as a newbie, I recommend Lucky Looter (which improves your chance of finding good stuff), either Pummel Pete or Skull Crusher (depending on whether you want to use clubs or sledges), Sexual Tyrannosaurus (which improves your stamina usage), and something from the Fortitude recovery perks. Healing faster, using less food, or running away are all useful. Ask a different player and you will get wildly different suggestions. Eventually, you will figure out your preferred style of play and pick things accordingly. Note that perks tend to be useful to different degrees based on whether you are in early, mid, or late game.
The other way to learn stuff is to find skill books and schematics. Schematics let you craft new things. Skill books give you a free perk, basically. Collect all seven of a type to get a bonus perk. Some of those are quite useful. Some of them are very circumstance-specific. Regardless, reading an unread book or schematic at least nets you bonus xp. You can tell that you've read a book by the tiny book icon (it will be open if read already). Even if you've read it, you can keep it and sell it for some cash. (Pro tip: Technically, schematics and books stack in inventory; in practice, finding multiple copies of the same one in a single POI is relatively rare.)
How do I get better stuff? There are three ways to do that: 1) Loot it; 2) Make it; 3) Buy it.
Looting: There are many objects that serve as containers in the game. Some objects, like cars, may or may not be a container. Just get close. If you get the option to search it, then it is a container. Not every container will have stuff. Searching containers takes time and makes noise. Locked containers need to be disassembled or have the lock picked in order to open them. Alpha 19 changed looting to be highly level- and time-dependent. You will not get top-tier loot in the early game. Even if you somehow fight your way to the roof of the Shotgun Messiah weapons plant on Day 1, you are likely to find stone spears and maybe a blunderbuss. (Pro tip: a pair of lucky goggles will increase your chance of finding better loot when opening a container for the first time.)
Crafting: If you know how to build something, and you have the necessary ingredients, and you have access to the correct work area, then you can create something from scratch. Perks and schematics will tell you how to build stuff, though there are a handful of things you can build right at the start (like you saw in your tutorial quests). Ingredients can be looted, or you can salvage them by destroying items. See the next paragraph for more on this. Lastly, some items require you to be at a workbench, chemistry station, campfire, or forge to create (there will be an icon next to the item in the build list telling you which). You can build all of these work areas if you know how, buy them from traders, or use ones you find scattered around the world. Traders have one of each, though they probably won't all be functional (but the broken ones can be looted, at least). Caveat: In Alpha 19, you can build up to level 5 gear (higher level gear is usually better and has more slots for mods), but level 6 gear can be found or purchased. Level 6 gear is typically better than anything you can build of the same type.
Salvage: Getting raw materials can be done in a number of ways. Use tools (axes, picks, wrenches, shovels) to extract things from blocks in the world. This is mostly fairly intuitive -- shovels work best on dirt, cement, etc., while axes are good on wooden items like tables and trees. Tools have different levels and can be modded to improve their abilities. Pay attention to the "block damage" stat of the tool to compare them. Some blocks are better sources than others. You can find mineral nodes scattered around that provide you with coal, iron, nitrate, oil shale, or lead, and those are excellent sources (Pro tip: the nodes are just the tip of the mineral iceberg; you can dig down to extract more ore.)
Another way to get raw materials is to use the scrap command in inventory (personally, I found the hotkey for this a little too easy to hit accidentally, so I remapped it). This includes most useful items of gear, as well as certain decorative items like faucets and chairs that you can pick up. Note that many metal items can be put in the forge to smelt them down for more resources than you get using the scrap command, including iron tools. (Pro-tip: Smelting radiators that you get from disassembling cars, heating radiators, and AC units is a great source of brass for crafting ammo; you can also smelt Dukes...but you're usually better off using them to buy ammo from a merchant.)
Buying: Merchants are scattered over the map. Setting up a base near one is a good idea. The post-apocalyptic currency in this game is the Duke, a brass coin that looks like a casino chip. (There are no bottle caps in this game!) If you don't have any money, then you can instead trade your labor for payment. Complete a quest and you'll get cash, xp, and a free prize of some kind (you get a choice -- ammo, meds, gear, etc.). Quests boil down to: retrieve a package, kill some zombies, kill some zombies AND retrieve a package, or dig up and retrieve a package. In the early game, in particular, quests can be very lucrative. (Pro tip: The Daring Adventurer perk can improve the rewards you get from quests if you decide you want to focus on that aspect of the game.) Merchants sell all sorts of things: food, raw materials, weapons, armor, vehicles, skill books, schematics. Their inventory resets daily-ish, so pop back on a regular basis.
Cheesy pro-tip: When you trigger a quest location, the POI will refresh to an "unexplored" state. This automatically refills all of the loot, etc., as well as repopulating the zombies. You can clear the location, then trigger the quest and clear it again for double the rewards. Just don't leave any loot inside a container that will refresh.
What about combat? Why haven't you really mentioned the z-word yet? Well, honestly, you'll probably spend a lot more time salvaging and looting than fighting (with the exception of Blood Moon horde nights, which I'll talk about below). Most zombies in the early game are slow and fairly easy to avoid. If you can avoid getting mobbed, then you will probably be all right.
Animals, however, will mess you up. You will quickly start yawning when you see a single stumbling housewife zombie, but a wolf will continue to be a threat well into the mid-game. Zombie animals are also a threat. Zombie dogs are fairly easy to kill but come in packs of 3-7. Zombie bears will soak up more damage than you can easily dish out in the early game. Zombie vultures are hard to hit and are really good and causing lacerations and bleeding. I've gotten infected by zombie animals far more commonly than I have from human zombies.
Zombie dogs, coyotes, wild cats, and wolves: running works until you run out of stamina, and then you're dead. The best bet in the early game is to find someplace high they can't reach and snipe them if you have enough arrows or ammo. These animals can and will sneak up on you. The good news is that they will make random noises that will let you know they're in the area.
Snakes: I've seen these in the desert and wasteland biomes. Good eatin', but they are quiet and can attack without warning. Luckily, they die easily.
Wild pigs: Don't bother them. Seriously, just leave them alone until you have good guns.
Bears and zombie bears: The good news is that they won't chase you as easily as some other animals. They are also not as fast and you can outrun them. The bad news is that if you get cornered, they can take and dish out huge amounts of damage.
Zombie vultures: These will attack you if you're injured, or are riding a vehicle. Shotguns are the easiest way to deal with them. Hitting them with melee weapons is an irritating chore that often ends with negative health effects. Possibly the most annoying creature in the game.
Deer, rabbits, and chickens: They don't attack, but run if attacked. They can be a good source of meat. (Pro tip: you can get quests from slips of paper you find in loot; the ones asking you to do things like, "kill a bunch of rabbits by throwing cans of Sham at them," are never worth it unless you're desperate to try something new.)
As the game advances, and as you explore some of the larger points of interest (POI), you will run across more dangerous zombies. Feral zombies have glowing eyes and always move at a full run. Crawlers will jump around like demented jackrabbits. Glowing versions of zombies regenerate health. A good rule of thumb is that if something is different about a zombie, it probably is more dangerous. (Pro tip: Quite a few POI's have alert triggers that will cause a bunch of nearby zombies to wake up at once, and stealth doesn't avoid tripping them; best to always have a clear avenue of retreat when entering a new location.)
Weapon selection: As said earlier, clubs and sledgehammers are your basic melee option. Either works well for the early game or to save ammo or hit quietly in the later game. Spears, axes, and knives/machetes can also be used, but they require more practice and really NEED perks to be fully optimized. Note that knives and axes are mostly meant to be tools. Stun batons require another source of damage, either turrets or other players, to be effective, and are also perk/mod-dependent.
Bows can easily kill basic zombies quietly with a headshot. Use the best bow or crossbow and the best ammunition that you can. Do away with stone arrows/bolts as soon as you can find or build the iron versions. You'll need to decide for yourself if you want to keep using bows once guns are available. I like them, but your mileage may vary. (Pro tip: There is a skill book that allows you to craft flaming and explosive arrows; sadly, there is no way to ride around in a Dodge Charger, shooting exploding arrows out the window while Dixie plays from the car horn.)
Guns are easily the best option in the game...and while perks can make them more effective, they aren't necessary. Don't hesitate to pull out a shotgun just because you put all your perk points into pistols if you run out of 9mm ammo. There is a fair amount of ammo in this game, and you can make more...but I always keep a club or sledge with me just in case. Having a gun makes exploring the harsher biomes a lot easier. The trade-offs for gun selection are pretty in line with any other game that has guns. Some burn ammo quickly. Some have low ammunition capacity. Some are better at long range. (Pro tip: having several loaded blunderbusses or double-barreled shotguns in your tool belt can provide an early-game rapid-fire option for dealing with tougher opponents.)
Weapon perks and skill books: Each type of weapon has an associated perk, and an associated skill book set. Maxing out both can make a fairly sizeable difference, and can have some unexpected other benefits. For example, one of the skill books gives you a 10% barter bonus if you happen to be holding a .357 while trading.
Blood Moon Horde Nights: Every 7 days (by default), the sky will turn red. When night falls (hour 22 by default), a horde will spawn near the player. Every zombie in that horde will magically know exactly where you are and will rush at you to eat your delicious flesh.
The devs of the game have made it clear that they want you to FIGHT the zombies, and have gone well out of their way to make turtling behind defenses less viable. Zombies will break down walls -- even ones made of brick and concrete. They will dig to reach you. They jump on top of each other to climb to get you (like in the Brad Pitt zombie flick). As the game progresses, zombies will appear that are capable of spitting acid, or that act as suicide bombers (can you call it suicide bombing if they're already dead?). (Pro tip: Bomb zombies, also known as Demolishers, can be taken down by head or leg shots; shooting them in the chest is a bad idea, despite the fact that shooting the glowing spot is normally the best move in a video game.)
Having said that, building defenses and traps can be very effective at delaying or channeling zombies, and can effectively thin the horde. There are pretty much two approaches people use to deal with a horde night.

1. Find a POI that prevents the zombies from reaching you and then wait out the attack. Anyplace high with enough metal or stone to last for a while will work. Large stores, fire departments, skyscrapers, water towers, etc., can all work, though the smaller the location, the more quickly it will fall to the zombies eventually.
2. Build a fortress. This is usually a setup that includes auto-turrets, traps, spikes, and walls made of brick or concrete. Often, they're set up to lead zombies into a killing zone where you can shoot or bomb them into bits. There are many YouTube videos on different approaches, and they range from lore-friendly to extremely cheesy exploitations of the AI or physics engine.

Note that these two are not mutually exclusive. It's pretty common to use POI's at first and then try building your own, or to move back to POI's if your attempt at a custom fortress is less effective than you had hoped. (Pro-tip: Don't use your home base for horde nights...at least until you've got a LOT of experience fortifying against horde nights.)
Creating a home base: Every survivor needs a place to keep their stuff. Just like with a horde base, you can either re-purpose a POI or build your own from scratch.
If you use a POI, then make sure you put down your bedroll. That will keep sleeping zombies from respawning in the area. If you want to use a bedroll as a way of regularly resetting your spawn point, then you're probably better off building your own base. That said, a good POI to use as a base has height. Using a forge on the first floor is a good way to attract random zombies. It's also good to find someplace with brick or concrete walls, as they'll last longer against wandering foes. Also, keep in mind that you'll be going in and out a lot, so you don't want it to be too hard to get in and out. (Pro tip: lone zombies can't jump to ladders that are two blocks off the ground, but you can; this doesn't work so well with hordes, as they climb over each other.)
By default, zombies are faster at night, so early game nights are a good time to huddle up in a base and craft things. When you run out of things to craft, READ the descriptions of your perks, skill books, and the built-in journal entries. You'll be surprised how much information is buried in there. You can also take the time to look at the map and plan out the next day's activity. (Pro tip: Find a cluster of close-together POI's on the map, and put a chest or storage box in the middle to serve as a temporary loot repository; inventory item stacking means that having a collection point can mean many fewer trips back to your base with the fruits of your effort.)
Vehicles: Maps in this game are fairly large. The solution to moving about to different biomes (which have different resources and different POI's) is to make or buy a vehicle. Anybody can assemble vehicles if they have the right parts, but some of the parts are locked behind perks/schematics. Taking the first-level vehicle perk can be useful, as the bicycle isn't a bad starting vehicle and the perk unlocks wheels, which every other vehicle needs. (Pro-tip: the easiest way to get gas when out-and-about is to salvage the many derelict cars.) Zombies and wildlife are pretty harmless if you can speed past them...with the exception of vultures, which can be annoying enough to make you stop your motorcycle just to shotgun them out of the sky.
Mods: There are tons of clothing, weapon, and armor mods in the game. Read the descriptions, as they can have a huge impact on effectiveness. (Alpha 19 has no vehicle mods, despite the fact that vehicles have mod slots.) If you open an item for modding, then any mods in your inventory that can be used for that item will start flashing, making it easy to see which mods go with that item. (Pro tip: There is a boot mod that reduces falling damage that is worth its weight in gold. Not only is it really easy to fall in some POI's, but the de-buff from spraining or breaking a leg when zombies are about can be utterly lethal.)
Power tools: Power tools are very powerful. Augers and chainsaws harvest materials very rapidly. They also use gas and make a ton of noise. They tend to quickly attract screamers, which are zombies that scream until other zombies show up to find out what all the fuss is about. Kill them quickly to avoid hordes interrupting your mining. (Pro tip: The physics engine of the game means that mine collapses are a thing, and they can be deadly; shoring up the ceiling with wood blocks can help prevent this, but augers can mine so quickly that you can lose track of how deeply you've gone beyond your supports.) The annoying pinging noise made by augers is an Alpha 19 addition that was generally disliked by everyone.
Repairing items: Many items like tools, weapons, and armor will degrade over time. Weapons and tools will let you know they need repair...typically when you need them the most. Armor never notifies you. It just stops working. Check your item status bars to figure out when to repair them. Simple tools and weapons can be fixed with wood and stone. More sophisticated items require repair kits. In Alpha 19, repair kits are a generic fix-all for any advanced item, which greatly simplifies things. They can be crafted with forged iron and duct tape. (Pro tip: forged iron can be made in any forge, but you can also salvage them from disassembling weight sets, desk and gun safes, and NON-FUNCTIONAL vending machines; salvaging them can be tedious in the early game but can be worth it to keep your precious firearms and armor functioning.)
Farming: You will find seeds, or you can take a perk or find a schematic to craft seeds. It takes five cobs of corn to create one corn seed, which is odd given that the whole grain is basically made of seeds...but chalk it up to game-play balancing. To plant a seed, you need a farm plot (except for mushrooms, which can grow on any surface), which you can craft with wood, rotting flesh, clay, and nitrate. Once planted, it will grow in three stages. Harvest it at stage 3 by punching the plant, and it will revert to stage 1 and deposit the appropriate food item into your inventory. If you accidentally harvest the seed, just replant it. If you want to get physically fit, do a push up in the real world every time you accidentally punch the ground or the air instead of your crop. (Pro tip: Don't harvest with a mostly full inventory, as if your tool belt slot is the last open spot, the crop will go there, and your next attempted punch will instead eat the last one you harvested.)
Electricity: Fire attracts zombies like moths. Using electric lights is a convenient way to avoid that, as zombies are Luddites and don't care for the products of industry. The most convenient way to light up your home base is with lanterns, but you need to find a certain skill book to make them. The good news is that their batteries never need recharging. You can also get flashlights, or mods that attach lights to your helmet or your weapon (press F to pay your respects...er, sorry, to turn on your light). You can also craft a variety of stand-alone electric lights, but that requires a separate energy source.
Energy sources come in three varieties. Battery packs hold up to six car batteries and drain the batteries over time. You can recharge the pack by connecting it to a different energy source. Generator banks hold up to six engines (recoverable from many derelict vehicles, among other sources) that burn gasoline to provide power. Solar banks contain solar cells and generate power as long as they are in sunlight. They also cannot be crafted and are as expensive as hell. (Pro-tip: Higher-level batteries last longer; use level 1 and 2 batteries to craft vehicles, sell, or smelt for lead, and keep the better ones for the battery banks.)
Use wiring tools to connect energy sources to energy consumers. There are some slightly wonky rules to how you can connect, but it isn't hard to learn with a little trial and error. Wiring doesn't cost you anything, so experiment freely. You can put various switches between the consumer and the source: toggle switches, pressure plates, and motion sensors being the most common, though there are other options. Switches require power, but less power than an active consumer. This allows you to, for example, conserve power in the daytime by turning off active defenses and lights so you don't waste battery charge or gasoline. (Pro tip: a solar bank charging a full battery bank will provide quiet, continuous power, at which point you can feel free to light up your place like a Vegas casino 24/7.)
Stealth: Some players will tell you stealth is impossible in this game. That is not true. What is true is that some situations negate stealth, most particularly Blood Moon hordes. Just tell yourself that the red moon makes their senses so acute that they can smell a living human from a mile away -- if you can't rationalize it away as a game balance issue. Some POI's also have event triggers that are based on your location rather than how stealthy you are being. Chalk that up to dramatic license. This is a game where zombies are real and I can carry a motorcycle in my boot. Get over it.
There are some things you need to know about stealth, though, to do it effectively. Your stealth rating is a combination of noise and visibility. Clomping around in heavy armor, waving a torch or flaming club around, or using a flashlight will make you easy to notice. Firing a gun, whacking a wrench against a metal appliance, or jumping up and down on a pile of trash will also make you easy to notice. That means using light armor, using a bow or melee weapon, and crouching are all ways to avoid being seen.
There are a number of skill books, perks, armor and weapon mods, and craftable gear that can all make you more stealthy. With diligence, you can walk up behind a sleeping zombie, smack him in the head with a sledgehammer, and not disturb the other one right next to him. Will this make the game much easier? I would argue no. It certainly makes some specific situations much easier. Clearing out a mini-horde in a POI with a bow before they wake up can be much less stressful, certainly. The lack of universal effectiveness definitely makes it a playstyle choice, however, rather than an over-powered build to avoid if you want a challenge. (Pro-tip: Stealth is never a 100% guarantee, which is why you always carry stacks of wood; wood is incredibly flexible, as it lets you drop cheap spike traps in narrow passages, climb up easily to places zombies cannot reach, make bridges across open gaps, craft doors to seal off openings that foes have to make noise to get through but that you can open easily, etc.)
That's about it. The most important pro tip is this: this is an open-world game where the only thing that matters is that you have fun playing it. It doesn't matter if you want to do single-player, or multi-player, or if you like crafting more than combat, or prefer spears over guns. You bought the game. Do what you like, as that is really the only goal.
