“Ranjaz K’Lua, you thieving scumbag!” the Kah’Ree in the purple suit exclaimed loudly as he spotted them across the busy room. “As I live and skral, I never thought you would have the Jolos show your face here again!”
Two J’Rami in suits detached themselves from the lobby wall, walking towards the Kittran and his friends. “Alfor, my old friend!” Ranjaz smiled broadly. “No need for the welcoming party, I’ve got your credits” —he gestured to Cygna— “and a sweetener, for all the trouble I caused last time.”
Alfor paused, lecherous eyes assessing the Fae’Dan. “You know I have a thing for purple.” He chuckled at his own joke and waved the guards back to their posts. “How about we have a drink, and discuss your forgiveness.” He pointed to Thor and Eruwenn. “Brought your own security, or are these Gal. Fed. goons? Everyone knows about your probation.”
The Kittran gave a broad grin. “I got a Tulseria-damned pardon, a new ship and a very lucrative opportunity.”
The Kah’Ree smiled. “How’d a thieving cat like you get a pardon?” He gave Ranjaz an appraising look up and down. “Oh? Now, let me guess, you need something from me and my brother?”
Ranjaz fired his finger guns. “You were always the smart one Alfor, that’s why you run the casino floor.” The Kittran stepped in close. “The item, do you still have it?”
Alfor tilted his head back and away from Ranjaz. “Your little guarantee?” He looked back down at Ranjaz. “We have it somewhere safe. Had some unusual people come by after you got caught. Asked a lot of questions. Made a lot of threats.” His face contorted in anger. “We got audited thanks to you.”
The Kittran smiled. “If only they knew you better, they could have simply paid you for the information.”
“We give nothing for free.” The Kah’Ree gave a sinister smile. “House rule.”
Ranjaz walked forward to put his his arm on Alfor’s back. “Let’s go see your brother. Have a few drinks, maybe gamble a little, and discuss our future riches.”

Ripley stood in the shadows of the staff shuttle bay, watching as the numerous employees of assorted races came and went. Loud laughter caught her attention, and a very strangely dressed Niham broke away from a small group and walked towards her. Ripley tried to maintain her low profile as the scantily clad female strutted towards her in long black boots with pointed heels that clacked loudly with every step.
Deliberately avoiding eye contact the Awakened tried to will herself into the wall but it was too late and a voice called out to her. “Hey Darling! You must be the one I’m looking for.”
Ripley shook her head. The Kittran had said the contact was an Ashi pirate captain, a master gambler and expert in procuring the unusual. “I don’t-”
“Listen cutie,” she interrupted, “you’re the one lurking in dark corners drawing attention to yourself. I’ve got your security card. You tell that fluffy little stud he owes me. And more than a bottle of Fae’Dan wine and a good time, if you know what I mean.” She held up the card between her fingers, just a little out of Ripley’s reach.
The Awakened considered the phrase ‘fluffy little stud’ and decided that, despite her hopes, this was probably her contact. “You’re Captain Whiplash?”
The Ashi laughed genuinely, the jiggling of tightly squeezed breasts bursting at shiny black restraints making Ripley nervous. “Oh, Darling! Only my little pets call me that! You may call me Sho’Na.”
Ripley was momentarily confused. “So, you aren’t a pirate captain?”
“I’m anything they pay me to be.” She smiled at the silver-haired woman's naivety. “You really are new to this.”
Ripley, caught off guard, simply nodded, then replied, “I’m a quick learner.”
“Good for you, Darling.” Sho’Na handed over the card. “Just make sure you get paid up front, and don’t use your real name with clients. Ruins the mystique.”
Ripley was unsure of what was being said. Turning the card over in her hands she saw that the holo-image on the front was of a male Arkellian. “This isn’t me?”
“Honey, I was given half a cycle to get you a level three security card. Just be glad it’s a biped.” Sho’Na looked Ripley up and down. “Our mutual acquaintance told me you were some sort of master of disguise who could even trick Selva Blaster.”
Ripley paused, then smiled. Her appearance had become such an integral part of her identity she had forgotten that it was entirely optional. “It won’t be a problem.” She looked at the card again. “Unless the owner comes looking for it.”
Sho’Na gave another bosom-trembling laugh that threatened to spill out at any moment. “Oh, don’t worry, he’s tied up at the moment.”
The Awakened considered the risk. “Hmmm, but for how long?”
The few strips of shiny black material that comprised Sho’Na’s revealing outfit strained under her amusement. “Don’t you worry, Darling. He paid for the whole night.”

Eruwenn had reassessed her opinion of Ranjaz many times since meeting him. The criminal. The loyal friend. The lazy trouble-maker. All were true, but now she was seeing something new. He sat opposite Toran, the brother of Alfor, in a game of dalcho she wished she could have taken part in, but was equally glad she did not.
At first she had thought the Kittran was outmatched, a few reckless mistakes costing him dearly as the Kah’Ree deftly selected his tiles. Toran was clearly a seasoned gambler, using a blend of the Remee Le’Bow Gambit and the Kowals’Kee Analysis she hadn’t seen before. It seemed to be dismantling Ranjaz’s tiles before he could even prepare his cards. A few fortunate dice rolls and he had taken a strong lead from the outset. The Kittran appeared desperate, playing any tile available to try and slow the defeat.
It had all been a ruse, she saw it; Ranjaz had saved his best tiles and carefully thrown hands to manipulate the cards. In just a few rounds he would be able to dominate the board and raise the stakes, recouping his losses and changing the course of the game entirely. She had encountered few players who could manipulate the game so deftly, using memory and layers of strategy to corner their opponent. It was magnificent.
Eruwenn couldn’t tear her eyes from the board as she stood beside Thor. The Awakened had shown no interest in the game, studiously watching the opposite door as Toran’s staff came in and out. When a waiter entered and began preparing drinks at the small private bar in the executive gambling room, Thor coughed. It was a strange thing for an Awakened to do, and Eruwenn finally looked up from the table. “Are you ok?”
Thor nodded. By the time he had looked towards her, she had returned her attention completely to the game. “You don’t seem concerned about your friend?” he asked.
The Anatidae watched as Ranjaz used a blind double feint, and the sheer audacity of such a move made her swallow hard. She didn’t look back to Thor, but mumbled a response. “I’m very confident in her abilities.”
The waiter was methodically placing drinks by each of the players, but when they stood behind Ranjaz the Kittran surged to his feet, shouting, “Hey! No cheating Toran! Getting your waiter to look over my shoulder? That’s a dirty move I’d expect from your brother!”
Thor had reacted faster than Eruwenn, pinning the arms of the Arkellian waiter in a vice-like bear hug. Toran slowly stood. He was big, heavily muscled, and the veins on his neck bulged as his anger rose. “Don’t accuse me in my own place.” He cracked his knuckles and glowered down at Ranjaz. “I run a straight game.”
Fearlessly the Kittran walked right up to the Kah’Ree and stared up into his face from waist height. “Don’t try and intimidate me, you son of a Vogel.” Ranjaz puffed out his chest and began pushing the burly casino owner. “Nobody cheats me!”
The blow caught Ranjaz across the cheek and sent him sprawling across the room. Eruwenn winced at the impact, but maintained her composure. Toran laughed. “Watch your tongue or I’ll add it to my collection.” He walked round the table and kicked Ranjaz in the stomach, glaring at Thor and Eruwenn, daring them to act. “Know your place trash. You’re at this table because you put credits up front. You are a dishonest thief, begging for scraps, and cosying up to me any my brother to get your little trinket back.” He returned to his seat. “Why would I need to cheat against the likes of you?”
Ranjaz stood, brushing himself off. “Fine, fine.” He waved a hand and Thor dropped the Arkellian. Ranjaz tapped him on the chest. “My mistake.” He sat down and picked up his cards once more. “You’re right Toran, you run a clean game. I’m just a sore loser.” He shuffled the order of the tiles that were still face down on the table. “To show my sincerity, how about we double the buy for the rest of the game?”
Toran snorted. “Double?” He looked at the Kittran, scrutinising his opponent. The game was already over; he had control of the board and his tiles occupied the three prime positions. Was the thief trying to buy his favour, he wondered? How much was the trinket he wanted truly worth? He decided it was worth testing. “Triple, and I’ll forget you dared touch me.”
The Kittran swallowed hard, his ears flat to his head. Toran momentarily worried he’d pushed for too much but a decision seemed to be reached. “Fine. Triple.” The look of defeat was delicious to the Kah’Ree.

Cygna had done her part and lured Alfor to a private room away from his security. She had danced, skipped and side-stepped his groping hands so far, maintaining a playfulness that ensured he complied. This sort of thing was not new to her; she had spent time undercover in the past. Fortunately, there had been little call for it since she had joined forces with Eruwenn.
Alfor’s eyes scanned her body once more. “The Kittran has very good taste.” He licked his lips, a small amount of drool escaping and running down his chin. He wiped it on his sleeve. “Now, I brought you somewhere quiet. How about you show me how sweet you can be?”
The Fae’Dan smiled coyly and continued her dancing just out of reach, glancing to the doorway where Alfor’s two guards stood watching her. “With an audience?” She raised her eyebrows expectantly.
With a sly grin he waved the guards out of the room. “Now come here and let me satisfy you like only a Kah’Ree can.” His eyes wandered over her body once more.
Cygna smiled, her own eyes moving from the Kah’Ree’s hands to his shoulders, then up towards his neck. An interesting fact about the Kah’Ree was the thick blood vessels on the side of their neck. They often bulged when a Kah’Ree was angry or excited, like Alfor’s were as he leered at her. She danced closer. Another interesting fact was that their brains were not as efficient as those of other species, hence the requirement for additional blood flow; more oxygen per limited thought.
He leaned forward, his eyes locked to her swaying hips. Cygna turned slowly, and his head tilted to appreciate her assets. The third, lesser known, fact about the Kah’Ree was that an interruption to the blood flow while they were in this excited state caused them to lose consciousness rapidly as their brain burned through the available oxygen. “My eyes are up here.” She smiled as he looked up at her with his head still tilted.
He sneered. “Who ca-”
The Fae’Dan struck the side of his neck with the edge of her hand, targeting the throbbing blood vessel with a powerful blow. The interruption to his brain's oxygen supply worked perfectly and he fell face forward onto the ground at her feet. She let out a sigh of relief and looked down at his unconscious body. “Thank you, that was particularly satisfying.”
She walked over to the door and peeked out, finding the guards standing either side. “He said to order us some drinks.” One of the guards nodded and immediately put his hand to his lapel communicator.
Back inside the room, Cygna used her foot to roll Alfor to his back and began searching his pockets. She came up empty. Her eyes caught a glimmer from his collar and she found a heavy gold chain, at the end of which was his security key. She removed it just as a knock came at the door. A deep voice from the other side called out. “Your drinks, boss.”
The Fae’Dan quickly messed up her hair. Using the back of her hand she smeared her lipstick sideways, and then pulled the strap of her dress down off her shoulder. She opened the door and, to her surprise, was faced with an Arkellian waiter. The bodyguards noted her dishevelled appearance and shared a smirk, and she said, “Oh, I wasn’t expec-”
The waiter pushed the trolley into the room. “Don’t keep the boss waiting, lady.” Before Cygna could reply they were inside and the door closed. “Relax, it’s me.”
Ripley’s voice sounded bizarre coming from the male Arkellian form, and Cygna’s eyes went wide in shock. Her sharp mind quickly adjusted to this new information. Of course the Awakened could change their physical appearance; she had just never seen it. They all seemed quite attached to their chosen human forms. “Neat trick.” She held out Alfor’s key. “Did you get the other one?”
Ripley nodded. “The Kittran played his part well. I didn’t see him take it, and didn’t feel it when he placed it in my pocket. Now that was a neat trick.”
The Fae’Dan smiled. “I think I’ll pass on that dalcho game.”
The Arkellian Ripley smiled. “Probably wise.” Turning, she slipped the key into her pocket and headed back out of the door.

Ripley entered the elevator to the owner's private offices on the top floor. Thanks to the distractions downstairs, the two large desks in the centre of the room were empty. She walked straight past them to the large leokas painting on the wall and swung it forward. Behind it was a Fae’Dan safe; she took out the two keys and a small homemade device the Kittran had given her.
Attaching the device to the bio-lock and standing before the safe, she elongated her arms to reach both key positions at once. There was more than one reason she was the one chosen for this task. The device beeped twice and small lights above each lock lit up. She simultaneously turned both keys, and there was a satisfying clunk.
She raised an eyebrow. The device had worked. The heavy safe door swung open and she began her search. Ranjaz had been very specific: while there was one item she had to get, she was to grab as much as possible to obscure their true target.
Quickly grabbing as much as she could she retrieved the keys and ran back across the room towards the elevator.

Cygna hauled Alfor back onto the seat, putting him in a more natural position and messing up his hair. She looked away as she began unbuttoning his clothes, pulling his trousers around his ankles and opening his shirt up to bare his chest. From a secret pocket inside her dress she pulled out a lace thong, setting it on his head like a bandana. She also had a small box which she opened, inside of which was a replica mouth with lipstick that matched her own.
Cygna carefully applied kiss marks all over his exposed skin before popping the fake lips back into the secret pocket. She took the Fae’Dan wine and partially filled two glasses, making sure to take a long drink from one and leave more lipstick marks. The rest of the wine was poured into the ice bucket.
She heard the sound of voices outside the door. The guards were arguing with someone, refusing them entry, but when the name Toran was mentioned it was Ripley who entered, still in uniform but now looking much like her usual self. She smirked at the Kah’Ree in his derobed state. “I can see you had fun.”
The Fae’Dan chuckled. “That’s the idea.” She looked at the Awakened in her true form. “You look… better.”
Ripley cocked her head. “It would be strange if the waiter came back to deliver a message.” She tossed the necklace key to Cygna, who replaced it on Alfor’s neck.
Reclining on the sofa and picking up her glass, Cygna took another long drink. “Get the other one back to Ranjaz quickly. This one won’t be napping much longer.”
The Awakened gave an almost Ranjaz-like grin. “You could always hit him again.” Before the Fae’Dan could reply she had ducked back out of the door. She caught the eye of one of the bodyguards and gave a head tilt back towards the room. “The boss is really enjoying himself!”
As the suited pair chuckled, the larger of the two got a message in his ear piece. “Hey, silver hair.” He grunted. “Boss has an important guest. Meet them in the foyer and bring them to the dalcho room.”
Ripley was relieved – she needed a reason to get into that room. “On my way.”

Toran was seething as he watched as the Kittran flipped his final tile. Why would he have waited so long to play the Wings of Tulseria tile? His stomach sank, and he couldn’t hold back his anger any longer. “Damn you!”
Ranjaz gave a full-fanged grin. “Looks like my luck turned at just the right moment.”
“Luck!” Toran’s tile snapped between his fingers. Why had he let the damned cat goad him into constantly increasing their bet? The cycle had started with him owing the brothers a million credits plus interest, and now the infuritating Kittran had won nearly forty times that. “Nobody is that lucky.”
“Woah!” Ranjaz held up his hands. “I would never cheat, well... certainly not a second time. After you caught me, I’d be a fool to try.”
“Hmm.” Toran looked at the two behind the Kittran. The big one would be a problem, but the Anatidae looked to be nothing special. “How about I give you back your little trinket and we call it even?”
“My trinket?” Ranjaz shook his head. “I had to convince you it was worth the million I owed. Why would you think I’d trade it for thirty eight million credits? I’ll pay what I owe, take my trinket and my winnings and leave.”
Toran folded his arms and looked across the dalcho board at Ranjaz. “And why would I let you do that?” The atmosphere in the room changed as the two security guards changed their stance. “Transfer the credits back to the house.”
Ranjaz dropped the grin, replacing it with a defiant glare. “What happened to you running a straight game?”
“The game was straight. You won, didn’t you?” He leaned forward, his eyes cold and hard. “You’re just in no position to collect.”
The Kittran was about to argue when the door behind Toran opened. He looked up as Ripley entered, and his eyes widened in shock. She wasn’t alone. “Toran, you bastard! You sold me out!”
“For ten million credits.” Toran stared hard at Ranjaz. “Care to make a better offer?”
Eruwenn’s eyes blazed with anger as the grey-suited Niham pulled up a seat and sat down beside Toran. “Now, now, you lied to me about having the item before. Don’t double cross me.” Sentinel Krast placed his hands together on the table, interlacing his fingers. “I’m not somebody who forgives easily.” He looked directly at Eruwenn. “Isn’t that right, former Councillor? A little far from your new Ambassador position, aren’t you?”
Ripley stood back against the wall. She had no idea who the newcomer was, but this most definitely was not the plan. The golden green Anatidae walked forward to stand behind Ranjaz. “Oh, I had a little vacation time saved up, and decided to spend it with my good friend here.” She placed a hand on the Kittrans shoulder. “And what brings a Sentinel here?”
Krast’s lips curled in what might approximate a smile. “I’m also acquainted with Mr K’Lua. In fact, we go back a very long way.” He turned to look directly at Ranjaz. “Now, return what is mine.”
Toran looked from Ranjaz to Krast. “Yours? You don’t look like the tiara wearing type.”
The Sentinel didn’t turn his head. “Ah, so you hid the data chip inside some shiny bauble. As inventive as ever, Mr K’Lua.” The Niham finally acknowledged Toran by looking at him. “Bring. It. Here.”
The Kah’Ree sucked air through his teeth. “Well, seems like we have something mighty important, and two very interested parties.” He stood and walked to his two security officers, who drew their weapons in unison. “Now then, I believe you” —he nodded to Krast— “offered ten million. How about it Ranjaz, old friend? What’s your counter offer?”
The Kittran had been sitting, silently seething at his double cross being double crossed. He looked at Krast. “Were you the one?”
Toran was surprised at being ignored, but before he could reply Krast answered, “The one?”
Ranjaz’s eyes narrowed, his ears alert, his tail swishing aggressively. “The one who took my friend!” he snarled as he felt Eruwenn’s hand holding him back gently.
Krast’s eyes glittered as he saw the impotent rage in his opponent’s eyes. “Ah, the poor deceased human?” He smiled his mannequin-esque smile. “And if I was?”
Toran snatched a pistol from one of his men and fired a blast at the ceiling. “Your quarrel can wait. Let’s settle our business first and you can kill each other after I’m paid.” He paused, then added, “but, not in my casino. Body disposal costs extra.”
Eruwenn’s hand gripped Ranjaz’s shoulder harder, and he braced himself. In one smooth move she both threw him backwards and to the right, and kicked the dalcho table up and forward into Krast's face. The Sentinel fell backwards as a blast from Toran struck the table, but Eruwenn was already on the move, sidestepping left and ducking forward into a cartwheel. Toran's gun had been following Ranjaz, but as her leg swept down it knocked the weapon from his grip.
Once she stabilized, her fist, already primed with momentum from the cartwheel, struck Toran below the ribs and knocked the wind from him. The guard, whose gun the Kah'Ree had been holding, lunged forward to grab Eruwenn but she simply deflected his hand, pairing his forward momentum with her rising elbow to swiftly render him unconscious.
The second guard had just begun to raise his weapon when a huge fist struck him in his chest, sending him careening backwards into the wall. Thor loomed over him, shaking his head as he retrieved the energy pistol. “Too slow.”
Ripley helped Ranjaz to his feet as Krast pushed the table off his chest. Toran was coughing and struggling to breathe as Ranjaz pressed the retrieved energy pistol to his forehead. “Double cross me?” He dragged the Kah’Ree forward. “I want to see the item, then I’ll pay what I owe.” The two of them awkwardly made their way back towards Krast, so Ranjaz could point the gun in his face. “Then we can talk about your body disposal fee.”
Krast stood, and his phony smile was gone. “You can’t kill me. The Sentinels will tear this place apart, hunt you down and kill you. You think I came alone? My ship is in orbit and waiting for my orders!”
Ranjaz grabbed him by the jacket, pulling him down to his level, and struck him in the face with the butt of the pistol. Thor cooly kept his stolen pistol pointed at Toran and the one conscious guard. By the third blow Krast’s face was bloody, his nose broken and he began to struggle against Ranjaz’s assault.
A muted boom caused everyone present to stop in their tracks. Alarms began to sound and Toran swore loudly. He pulled out his communicator, ignoring Thor’s pistol. “What the hell was that!” He held the device close as he listened. “My office?” He patted his pocket. Finding his key in place, he looked to Ranjaz and then Krast. “Seal the casino! And where is my brother?”
Ripley suddenly understood why the Kittran had told her to leave his device on the safe door. After a brief further moment of shock, which she kept from showing on her face, she realized that she had been carrying an explosive without being told. If they survived, Ranjaz was going to need to explain himself. Thoroughly.
Eruwenn, Thor and Ranjaz had backed away to the opposite side of the room, standing by the door. Krast stood alone, holding his profusely bleeding nose. The opposite door soon opened to reveal scrambling casino security, with Toran and his guard standing nearby.
The unconscious guard was carried out without comment, and the Kah’Ree turned to Ripley. “Why are you still here?” She nodded and slipped out of the door, leaving one less concern for the remaining three. “Alright, which one of your skrolg-licking bastards broke into my private safe?”
Krast spat blood onto the floor, pointing at Ranjaz. “He’s the thief. You and I had a deal.”
The Kittran smirked. “I’m a better thief than blowing up a Tulseria-damned safe. If I wanted to steal it, I would have done just that. I would not have announced my arrival and sat down to a game of dalcho.”
Toran looked between the two of them. “He’s got a point.” One of his men handed him a pistol, and he continued to talk a little distractedly into his communicator. “Well, check everywhere!”
Ranjaz stirred the pot. “He’s the bastard who double crossed me, why would he honour your deal?”
Eruwenn nodded. “A government agent can’t be seen working with criminals.”
Krast's face contorted in rage. “Don’t be a damned fool, Toran!” He pointed at Ranjaz. “This is clearly some convoluted distraction.”
Toran shook his head. “They had the upper hand. You were the one getting your face ruined.”

Cygna watched nervously as Alfor began to stir. Things were taking a lot longer than expected. Finally, her signal came; it was not as subtle as she had been led to believe. As soon as the explosion went off the two bodyguards quickly came into the room, glancing from Alfor’s sleeping body to her. She staggered forward, wine bottle in hand. “We need more drinkshh!”
The guard ignored her as he saw the condition of his boss. “Not again,” he groaned. “Toran will kill us for letting him get like this.”
The second guard stepped out into the corridor. “I’m not dressing him! Last time he tried to kiss me!”
Cygna paused, not having expected it to go this way. The first bodyguard walked out as well. “He pissed on my new shoes the time before that. I’m not moving him.”
Their communicators went off and their faces became more serious. Bodyguard two spoke first. “Damn it. Toran wants him.”
The first turned to look at the increasingly bewildered Cygna. “You!” He smiled. “You got him undressed. You can dress him.”
Cygna spotted Ripley running down the corridor towards them, causing her confusion to grow further. The Awakened shouted one word. “Sentinels!”
The Fae’Dan’s mind raced. The plan was clearly blown, and they had to get out. Fast. As the guards were now facing Ripley, she took the opportunity to kick one in the back of the knee. He fell forward, and as the second turned he was met with the upward swing of a wine bottle. The first guard discovered first-hand the shocking truth of how hard the knee of an Awakened could be, and both were unconscious by the time they hit the ground.
Cygna smiled at Ripley. "Thanks."
The Awakened gave a swift nod of acknowledgement. “A Sentinel turned up, so Ranjaz set off the diversion he promised. The other brother is busy trying to figure out whether it’s us or the Sentinels robbing him.”
Cygna took on board the new information quickly, knowing she needed to help the others. “I have an idea. Lie over there and look dead.” She ran back into the room, where Alfor was groaning and starting to move. She slipped the chain from his neck and dropped it into the ice bucket, where it sank out of sight below the dark Fae’Dan wine. She began to slowly shake him.
“Huh,” he grumbled, and slowly opened his eyes. “Wha.. what happened?”
Cygna clung to him tightly. “Oh thank goodness! I thought they killed you!”
“Killed?” Alfor’s head was pounding, his memory blurry. “Who-” He caught sight of his downed guards in the open doorway. “What the hell happened?” He began pulling at his clothes, and swiftly checked that his trousers were dry.
“While we were.. You know…” He nodded; he was buttoning up his clothes. He didn’t remember, but he knew. “Some scary men burst into the room and shot you! I was so scared.” She hugged him tight, pressing herself against him.
He put his arm around her. “What men? Be brave, and tell me what happened.”
She looked up at him, trying to make her eyes as big as possible, adding a lip tremble to really sell it. “I don’t know! They wore grey suits. And one of them took your necklace!”
“My necklace.” He clutched at his chest where it should have been. “Damn Sentinels! I told Toran we couldn't trust them!”
He stepped into the corridor, where Ripley lay on the ground with a terrible energy weapon burn on the side of her face. He pulled out his communicator. “Toran.” He instantly got hold of his brother. “I didn’t answer because I was knocked out. Damn Sentinels took my key, killed some of our guys.” He looked around. “Nobody important, just some waiter.” He finally pulled the underwear from his head. “I’ll go to the security room and look at the video.”
He ended the call and turned back to Cygna. “You stay here.”
She smiled. “Sorry, we can’t let you check the security footage.”
“Wha-”
Ripley struck him from behind and he crumpled to the ground, her fake burn melting from her face. The Awakened looked around, rechecking that all was clear. “I think that’s all we can do; we should get out of here. Come with me, my shuttle is in the staff bay.”

Toran closed his communicator and motioned to a guard. “Search him.”
Eruwenn wished she had some way to capture the look on Krast’s face when the remote detonator was pulled from his pocket. She'd have to hug the light-fingered Kittran later.
The Sentinel grit his teeth. “That’s not mine.”
“Sure, sure,” Toran agreed, while simultaneously shaking his head at the Sentinel. “Looks like you really didn’t come alone.”
Krast was furious, yelling, “I’m telling you-” He broke off when Ranjaz shot him in the leg, falling to the floor.
The Kah’Ree pointed his pistol at the Kittran. “Can’t let you kill a Sentinel in my casino, even if they did just rob me.”
Ranjaz was surprised the Kah’Ree had believed them so easily. “What about us?”
Toran sighed, lowering his weapon. “Take your winnings and get out. If you stole the thing once, I’m sure you can steal it again.”
Eruwenn and Thor both made to leave. Ranjaz paused, knowing he might not get another chance. “And him?”
The Kah’Ree looked at the Sentinel holding his wounded leg. “We’ll send him back to his ship. As much as I hate it, the Sentinels are untouchable.”
Ranjaz raised his pistol. “He took my friend.”
“And we’ll get him back,” Eruwenn said softly. “Then we’ll all deal with him, and the rest of the Sentinels.”
Krast sneered and spat blood once more. “Your human is dead.”
Ranjaz fired.
Krast screamed and grabbed his other leg. “You bastard!”
Toran and his men raised their weapons as the Kah’Ree yelled, “Get the hell out of here!”
Ranjaz turned and followed the others out of the door, but just as it was about to close he poked his head back in. “Oh, one last thing.”
Toran could be seen looking up just as the Kittran fired again, but he ducked out of sight before the true outcome of his shot could be seen. The shrieks of agony, however, followed the trio down the corridor as they broke into a run. Eruwenn spared a glance down at Ranjaz during their retreat. “What did you do?”
The full-fanged grin had never been larger. “Made sure we’ll see him again.”
On the floor of the dalcho room Krast was screaming in agony. He turned over to stare at the closed door. “I’ll kill you! I will hunt you down and kill every last one of you!”
Toran spoke into his communicator. “Tell the Sentinel ship to come get their man. And, bring a doctor. A really good doctor.” He nudged one of his guards and finally let out a chuckle. After all, the Sentinels had just robbed him. “You double-crossing scum always get what you deserve.”
The J’Rami guard raised an eyebrow. “Not sure anyone deserves getting shot in the balls.”

PSA - Be Smart, Understand, Rebalance

Ok, so I get it that most people here really aren't into diversification, balance, and playing anything but the short game. YOLO or Die, right? There IS room for being both strategic AND aggressive. So let's put aside some excessive passion for individual plays and examine some strategies for being a "Smart Hulk" version of a DSGC (Degenerate SPAC Gambler Club) member. Let's be smart and smash the returns in December too.
I do plenty "roll the dice" spec myself and it can make lots of money. But if you don't want to get caught on the wrong side of a bubble bursting you should take a few minutes this weekend and re-evaluate which of the runners need a little attention and should be trimmed a little.
Let's recap. October was brutal for the month. The markets hated the prospect of a messy election. Please don't try to argue market voting for a particular candidate. Besides violating posting rules it isn't true. The market votes for economics and stability and a messy election freezes economic policy progress. Last half of October DOW and NASDAQ dropped 10%. SPACs (with their high beta) got hurt worse (like normal). My entire portfolio dropped 29% to essentially flat for the year. No, that wasn't in my plan.
BUT November showed us a relatively un-messy election. No real riots. No fire bombings or armed militias fighting in major US cities. Plus Pfizer, Moderna came to rescue with vaccine news. So as markets going gaga for prospects of rockin' GDP the high beta SPAC universe realized Biden+EV=$$$$. Hell even a piece of dog turd $THCB (focused on dead MJ space) did a Hail-Mary pivot to EV (rumor). Even a rumor of EV involvement is enough, in current environment. And YES I flipped $THCB already. Bought 12k warrants Tuesday and sold AH @ 2.29 (yes I was that guy) for a $7200 swing of 36%. It may pop more...so what. On one hand there's PAPER profits and on the other hand real things like money in the bank. Sorry but 36% in 3 days on pure rumor is 🔐 it down time. If it dips Monday I WILL rebuy.
Now with the SPAC world and news dominated by EV and with general market in party mode we are seeing most SPACS with no major baggage doing great. Not just EV. So, my 29% loss for October just got replaced with a 60% gain for November. All fueled by roughly 20 different SPAC plays.
YES it is possible to diversify (within the SPAC) to some degree and make stupid nice gains. I have positions in EV, freshly split units, near-merger, pre-LOI, mid-rumor, post-merger, gaming, sports, tech, etc. And that doesn't mean take a shotgun approach. I bought then sold $AMCIW early on as I didn't like it. Now with recent news I bought 14k warrants @ 1.17. With AH closing @ 1.67 I'm sitting on a. 1 day 43% gain. Probably gonna sit on it for a while.
So what can you do?
Consider balancing into SPACS with strong tail winds. $LCA just got approval plus progress for expanding into 2 more states. Plus ppl love to make a case (pretty strong one) for LCA to draft DraftKings. (Sorry but that pun was begging to be made). Then there is the revenue story at PIC compared to many other EV plays. Compared to the revenue story KCAC (now QS) makes one wonder what PIC deserves. Of course all the haters and lovers of $HCAC just adds to liquidity. This just reminds me of a sleeping giant of potential. Now I'm one of those long time holders of $APXT (since early Sept). I added once I summed up it had suddenly become a non-EV play with a strong revenue and growth story in tech and major partners. And the market is showing that. Plus it doesn't hurt that some groups have decide APXT is worthy of a massive investor community awareness campaign. Of course there are several more lower-priced picks with good mgmt, good stories, and good low-end volume to justify accumulate and wait. I'm not inclined to mention which I like because I'm still accumulating. 😜
So....take stock. Consider rebalancing....you CAN have both a strategy AND good returns without going all in. But above all be THANKFUL we can still make our money work harder then we do sometimes.
Take care all and let's all be smart and helpful.

I asked before and didn't get a lot of answers so here i am again, is this homebrew class balanced, i am open for advice.

The gambler class:
Basic idea: you have a deck of 52 cards with, like a normal deck of cards (except the jokers), you can draw 20 cards after each long rest, but the ones you had before long rest will go back in your deck. To attack you can either use a normal weapon, or use your cards to get a high number, the higher you get the more damage you do. you can also spend an action to draw another 5 cards from your deck with a maximum of 25 in your hand at a time. The number you get is equal to the damage. You must still make an attack roll before drawing a card. (intelligence modifier) the cards deal magical piercing damage.
Abilities:
Level 1
- cardplay (as listed above, at level 1 you can only use 1 card per action)
- facial language: after cheating at cards by communicating through facial expressions. You can communicate with other people that know this language without speaking a word. This language can also be taught to other people, this takes a total of 8 hours.
Level 2
- eeves dropper: you can add half your wisdom modifier to 3 skills of your choice
- ace in the deck: you add a 53rd card to your deck: a joker: when you use the joker card, you can use the next card in your hand and crit with it. The joker can only be used once per short / long rest.
Level 3
- gambler’s specialty: you can pick a subclass for your gambler:
  1. the cheater: guaranteed ability: a cheaters deck: all 1’s in your deck are replaced with 6’s 3rd level ability: “some tricks up my sleeve.”: You can replace a card with a 12. This feature recharges when you roll initiative.
  2. group gambler: guaranteed ability: “the heart of the cards” When using the help action, instead of giving advantage, you can choose to use the first card in your deck and add that number to the attack roll. A joker is considered a critical hit (but no addition to the attack roll, so if they miss the joker is wasted.) 3rd level ability: “Lucky roll” When entering a town, you can gamble your entire party’s gold with a chance to get 4 times the money, when you choose to do so, roll a d20, if 18 or higher, you succeed, if not, you lose all the gold.
  3. The rage gambler: guaranteed ability: “sore loser” When the card you used is a 5 or lower, you can choose to attack with your weapon instead 3rd level ability: “refuse to lose” When you hit 0 hit points, can choose to immediately make a charisma saving throw with DC equal to how much damage you took that round with a max of 18. If succesful, you drop to 1 hit point.
  4. Magical gambling guarenteed ability: spellcasting. You have learned how to cast spells to help you during games, you have the same spellcasting class as a bard and are a charisma caster. You know 2 cantrips at level 3. 3 at level 6. 4 at level 10. 5 at level 14, and 6 at level 17. You learn a 2 new spells every level. And new spell slots at the same rate as a bard.
3rd level ability: “future cards” When picking your next set of starting cards after a long rest, you can see the first 5 cards of your deck.
Level 4
- Observant stare: you can add your proficiency bonus to your perception and passive perception (again if already proficiened in perception)
- Ability score improvement
Level 5
- Quickdraw: you can now use 2 cards in a single attack action
- Stacked deck: you get an extra 5 cards to prepare after a long rest and your maximum in your hand increases to 30
Level 6
Fed drunk: having drank so much beer in your time makes you immune to poison and disease
Level 7
Gamblers specialty feature:
  1. The cheater 7th level: “joking around” you add 2 more jokers to your card deck
  2. Group gambler 7th level: “gamble night” when taking a short rest, you pull out your card deck to play with your party. The party regains 2 extra rolls of their hit dice worth of health.
  3. Rage gambler 7th level: “all bets are off” when you use a card, you can choose to put it back and grab a new one from you deck (not your hand)
  4. Magical gambling: 7th level: “spiritual peaking” You have mastered your spirit to maneuver it outside your body. As an action, you can let your spirit leave your body, you are in control of the spirit. The spirit can move through anything, but must stay within 30 feet of you, you cannot do anything when your spirit is outside your body. When you are moved by something, your spirit instantly snaps back into your body
Level 8
Ability score improvement
Level 9
“gamble friends” because you have played with so many different creatures, you know a thing or two about them. any creature that is native to the material plane, you know exactly what their armor class and max health is.
Level 10
“distracting story” you tell stories during games to distract your opponents all the time. During combat, you can choose a creature within 30 feet of you and start telling them a story, the creature must make a charisma saving throw equal to your charisma stat. if they succeed, they don’t pay attention to you, but you become a target because you are making noise. If they fail, the creature is now charmed by you and has disadvantage on attack rolls.
Level 11
- “fast hands” you can now use 3 cards in a single attack action.
- “steady hold” you can pull 30 cards after a long rest, and the maximum in your hand increases to 35.
Level 12
Nothing
Level 13
Ability score improvement
Level 14
Gambling specialty feature
  1. The cheater 14th level: “cheaters promise” you can swear to a creature that you are not gonna hurt it, when you do so, the creature’s armor class decreases by 2 and you have advantage on your first attack on that creature.
  2. Group gambler 14th level: “healing cards” You can choose to heal a creature within 30 feet of you with your cards, you pull the same amount of cards as when you attack, and heal the same amount.
  3. Rage gambler: 14th level: “my game, my rules” Once per long rest, if you miss the enemy’s AC on an attack roll by 2 or less, you can choose to hit the target instead.
  4. Magical gambling 14th level: “third draw” as a bonus action, you can use your magic to draw an extra 3 cards after taking the attack action, once per short/long rest.
Level 15

homemade mantis deck for LCG

Greetings the great hivemind of the internet!
This post is about my attempt to make mantis clan cards, since they do not function as a playable faction in the LCG. Cards descriptions will be found below, but first a word of introduction.
I've been playing a lot of L5R Lcg (a lot) for almost a year now, since me an my girlfriend got really hooked up on it. And since we played through every clan already and the Mantis is my favourite clan lore-wise I decided to cook something up on my own.
I know there are some mantis cards already, but this is nothing even close to a deck. But the existing cards, as well as some old CCG mechanincs were my inspiration. I decided to design the cards to fit what we get for each clan from the Core Set (13 characters, 2 conflict characters, 3/4 attachements, 5 events, 1/2 holdings, 1 province, stronghold), just to feel out the mechanics, and test if it will work at all. So I've wrote some cards dow, printed them and played with every clan deck from the core set, and some build freely, changing and balancing the cards on the way accordingly. Now that these are in my opinion quite balanced and funcionig I would like to get some thirdhand opinion - and what better place to get it, that here!
To let you better understand the build, here are some goals that I had in mind to implement in the card mechanics:
- Mantis Pride - Mantis are still a Small Clan, but they have far greater ambitions and ego. So, fair amount of Glory, especialy on diplomat cards, and "honoring myself" mechanics. In the official cards you can find this tendency on Armament Artisan or Aspiring Challenger, both Mantis. - Managing resources - this is a bit meta, but what are honor and fate for a Mantis than just another currency? So trading honor for fate or fate for honor, and finding gain in it, will be one of the main mechanics. In the official cards you can find this tendency on Mantis Seafarer, Yoritomo, Mantis Tekinja. - Stealin'n'plunderin' - Yes, Mantis have aspirations to be a Great Clan, but they still are mostly merchants, and not at all pirates. Not at all. So another main mechanic, side by side wyth managing resources mentioned above, will be messing with conflict cards, and stealing them. In the official cards you can find this tendency on Kudaka, Mantis Tekinja cards.
One last thing before i get into the cards specifics. I also implemented a special Mantis rule that you can find on cards, witch is similar in the way it works to composure or pride. This rule is the ability to change conflicts into reids. A reid conflict do not change the rules in any way on its own, but it is a keyword for other card abilities.
With that all said, let's get into the meat and juice - the cards, as I present them for y'all below:
First of all, the stronghold:
Kyuden Gotei. Str +2; Honor: 10; Inf:10; +7 fate
Action: Bow this stronghold. Choose an event or an attachment with fate cost lower than your honor bid from any player’s conflict discard pile, and add it to your hand. Cards from opponent’s discard piles played this way are placed at the bottom of the player’s conflict deck.
Designing this card I was inspired by the lore of Mantis capital city. Kyuden Gotei is a massive trade center, and it is said to be situated on a Heaven's Bank Hold, a great treasury where only the daimyos and their hatamoto were allowed entrance. Nobody knows what is hidden there, if anything at all, but to me, stealing your opponent's cards is the best way to represent unknown and vast treasures - some acquired, some salvaged - kept safe, until the time to use them comes.
Mantis province:
Bay of Dark Water (Wan no Asaguroi Mizu) Str 3 (fire)
Reaction: After this province is revealed, your opponent must decide for each of the attacking characters: either discard one fate from a character or bow a character.
This card is based on a place bearing its name. It was situated close to one of the Mantis port villages, and the superstitious sailors believed that some horrors lived on the bottom of the bay, and if you do not pay them tribute when entering the port, you'll bring doom upon yourself. I think this province represents it.
Holdings:
Toshi no Inazuma (City of Lightning) +1 Str City, harbor
All neutral characters counts as having mantis clan trait.
"From the City of Lightning will the Mantis grow" - Osano-wo
This one is based on the City of Lightning, witch is widely known as an "Open City". It is said that anyone, even gaijin can find refuge and halp here.
Koutetsukan +2 Str harbor
All seafaring attachements grant +1 glory
Koutetsukan is actually based on a card from CCG, and a mantis port. It was a place where the finest ships from the Storm Fleets were made.

Now for the characters. I know, that some Mantis characters are already available, as neutral cards. But I decided not to include them in the deck, as they already are from some dynasty packs. So I do not count them as a part of the "core Mantis".
*Yoritomo Cost: 5 (4/4/3) bushi, champion, mantis clan
Reaction: After you claim a ring during a conflict, exchange: one fate to one honor if you are less honorable than your opponent; one honor to one fate if you are more honorable than your opponent.
"We prove our worth now, or we die trying."
I know that we already have a neutral Yoritomo card (and it kicks ass) but this is my take on a in-clan champion. This way it is similiar to Akodo Toturi - you can find him as both in-clan and neutral. As to this card's ability, I based it on the Managing Resources mechanic and abilities of Akodo Toturi and Doji Hotaru from core.

\* Takarabako no Byakko Cost 4 (4/2/2) mantis clan
Byakko cannot participate in reid conflicts.
Action: Bow this character. Reveal a province. (Limit: twice per round)
“The only price I seek to acquire, is the immeasurable beauty of the world”
Byakko was the fifth cousin of Yoritomo, and it is said he had much more intrest in exploration than piracy, and I tried to include this mindset into his ability. As to his surname - Takarabako was the name of his kobune, and as we all know, as a Small Clan mantis often bore names of their ships or ports they were from as surnames.

Storm Fleet’s Captain Cost: 4 (3/1/4) bushi
After this character wins a reid conflict, place 1 honor on this card. If this character is discarded all honor is lost.
Action: During a conflict, sacrifice this character. Each character you control gains +X/+X until the end of the conflict, where X is equal to the number of honor tokens collected on this card. Gain all honor tokens from this card.
“The captain is with us!”
The inspiring and well known leader, seen by many sailors as an example and a living legend. Captain's ability, for me could be a nice strategic play. the longer he is in play, the more honor tokens you are able to collect on him, but it also prolongues the risk of your opponent discarding fate from him, or even him, and taking away your option to sacrifice the character.

Yoritomo Furikae Cost: 3 (4/0/3) bushi, mantis clan
Furikae must always be commited to each conflict to witch Yoritomo is commited, is bowed or returns home each time Yoritomo does so, is honoured or dishonoured each time Yoritomo is; if able. If any amount of fate is placed on Yoritomo, put the same amount on this character. This character cannot lose fate, be discarded or removed from the game by any effect other than the resolution of the Fate Phase. If this character is in your dynasty discard pile, treat him as being placed on your provinces.
"I will bare your standard, Yoritomo. Until death releases me from my duty."
This one is an old-lore fella. His long story short is that he was completely loyal to Yoritomo, and fought as his standard bearer. One time he was thought dead and left on the battlefield, but came back and joined with Yoritomo, still bearing his colors. He was said unable to be killed. And when he finally was, he returned shortly after through the Gates of Oblivion, still determined to serve his duty.

Mantis Magistrate Cost: 3 (-/4/X) diplomat, magistrate, mantis clan
Magistrate’s glory is equal to the difference between players honor dials.
Action: Give your opponent honour equal to this character’s glory. Honor this character.
"True value of the Mantis cannot be measured in spices and silks"
In the TCG Mantis are striving to gain the Great Clan status. In doing so they are making swift aliances, gaining favor of the Emperor himself, but on the other hand stil are condemned for piracy and questionable ways of trade.

Entrusted Bosun Cost: 3 (3/2/1) bushi, mantis clan
Action: Bow this character. Choose seafaring attachment from your conflict discard pile, or attached to one of the characters you control, and place it attached to mantis clan character you control.
"I speak on behalf of the crew"
Another navy-like card. Seafaring is a trait I placed on some attachements, connected with... well, with seafaring.

Kitsune Impersonator Cost 3 (0/0/0) shugenja, kitsune
Action: During a conflict, in witch this character is participating, copy base values of (military ability) and (political ability) and (glory) of a chosen character until the end of the conflict. Dishonor that character.
"You must mistake me for someone else"
Kitsune family, although on this point in TCG not the part of the Mantis, still are in good realtions, and for sure similar situation, as both really strong Small Clans. As for the impersonators - the ability is based on the RPG school, that you can find in Emerald Empire Essential under the same name. Kitsune spirits are known tricksters, and often steal samurai's ability, sometimes just for fun.

Skulduggering Merchant Cost: 2 (1/3/0) courtier, mantis clan
Action: Choose a card in a player’s conflict discard pile. You can use this card, if able, paying all cost. If you choose an opponent’s discard pile, additionally give your opponent honour equal to the card’s cost.
"There is nothing I cannot sell!"
This one is connected to the stealin'n'plundern' mechanics. Who the hell knows what really happens on the Mantis trade markets!

Mantis Gambler Cost: 2 (2/2/0)
Action: During a conflict, initiate a (diplomatic) duel against a character of your opponent’s choice. Before revealing honor dials, both players choose a card from hand and place it facedown on the table. Reveal them at the resolution of the duel. Controller of the duel’s winner adds both cards to his hand.
"It is said, he carved his dice from the bones of a Fortune…"
This one is inspired by some old lore character witch doeasnt even fit the TCG time period. Nevertheles, the ability is intenden to bring a bit of havoc to the table, and an ability for players to gain accses to each others arsenal.

Orator of the Alliance Cost: 2 (0/2/1) diplomat, mantis clan
Sincerity
Characters with a small clan trait printed cannot be dishonored.
I'm not sure if the Small Clans Aliiance is a thing in the TCG, but it certainly was in the old lore. This card allows you to include some cards from Small Clans (including the Mantis) in your deck and give them the sense of unity and power, in spite of the "small" ancestry.

Mantis Brawler Cost 2 (3/0/0) bushi, mantis clan
Action: During a conflict, initiate a duel against a character in the opponent’s home area. If you win the duel, move that character to the conflit. If your opponent wins the duel, bow this character and move it home.
"Can you feel how the waves are dancing?"
Another old-lore inspired card. In one of the erly editions of the L5R RPG (1st or 2nd) there was a Mantis Brawler school, witch was basically the way of a drunken fist. Many mantis sailors are always looking for a brawl, with a tankard in one hand and a bottle in another. If you are not carefull, you can be pulled into such a conflict while in one of the harbors.

Storm Rider Tensai Cost 1 (1/1/0) shugenja, fire, mantis clan.
Reduce the cost of playing fire spells by 1. If you have Fire Ring in your claimed ring pool, reduce this cost by an additional 1.
"The thunder flows in my veins."
Osano-wo is a huge deal for the Mantis, and this deck needs some shugenja.
Boarding Vanguard Cost: 1 (4/-/1) bushi, mantis clan
"Boooooaaaard!!"
Yeah, this one is pretty self explanatory

There are also two conflict characters:
Definitive Wako Cost: 1 (2/-/0) shinobi, pirate
Reaction: If you win the conflict, characters you control do not bow as a result of a conflict’s resolution. If this conflict was a reid conflict, return this character to your hand.
"They came from the sea, but we spotted no ship, until it was too late… they came and left, like ghosts."
Real life wako were coastal ninja-pirates, assaulting whoever they chose, and rose to the status of legends.
Aspiring Sailor Cost: 0 (1/1/0) mantis clan
If this character is participating in a conflict, it must be chosen as a target of an opponent’s events, if able.
"I will prove my worth."
Every crew have this "new guy". Greenhorn short after gempukku, wanting to carve his name into the fabric of the world... so yeah, he can take some hits. And if he doesnt... well, it's not like some big deal, right?

We have characters out of the way, so let's dive into the remaining parts of the conflict deck, starting with attachments:
Tsuraikaze Cost: 4 (+3/-) kobune, seafaring
restricted
Attached character does not bow at the resolution of reid conflicts. Reaction: After you win a conflict, place 1 fate on attached character and any number of participating mantis clan characters you control with total printed cost up to attached character’s cost. (Max 1 per round)
Tsuraikaze is a name of a kobune owned by Yoritomo. On its deck he sailed even to the Imperial city. The attachement is pretty powerful, still have some second thoughts about it, but hey - this one has its cost. It is meant to reward and reflect the reiding and pirating side of the mantis.
Takarabako Cost: 1 (+1/+1) kobune, seafaring
restricted
Attach to a mantis clan character
Reaction: After a province is revealed, ready this character. (Limit: 2 times per turn)
As I mentioned above, Takarabako is a kobune owned by Byakko, the cousin of Yoritomo. He is an explorer rather than a pirate, and I think that the ability reflects on this steadfast exploration.
Stolen Merchant License Cost: 0 (-/+1)
Action: Discard this attachement. Conflict becomes a reid conflict.
Many Mantis samurai are merchants and they live by trade. But same live by a difrent kind of trade, the kind that often ends bloody.
Shōbai Cost: 2 (+2/+2)
Attach to a mantis clan character.
ancestral, restricted
Composure - each character that opponent controls cannot be honored.
Not sure abut TCG but in the old lore, shobai was an ancestral wakizashi of the Mantis.
To finish the deck, some events:
Take what you can! Cost: 0
Action: During a conflict, in witch you are the attacking player, conflict becomes a reid conflict. No province is broken at the resolution of the conflict, and characters controlled by both players do not bow as a result of conflict resolution.
Designing this one I thought of a situation when Mantis plan to attack some province of the opponent, realise they better run to fight another day, so the take what they can and run away in the middle of the battle. This allows Mantis player to take a step back - conflict with a poor effect, but both players assesed the opponents strenghts and can prepare for another battle - witch, hopefully, the mantis wont flee.
Price of loyalty Cost: 2
Action: During a conflict, choose a character controlled by your opponent. Give your opponent fate equal to the character’s cost and take control of it until the end of the conflict, with additional mantis clan trait. If the chosen character is unique, give your opponent the same amount of honour.
Everyone's loyalty can be bought, for the right price. I inspired this card by the Scorpion event "Miyako's Undertaking" and "Blackmail".
Fury of Osano-wo Cost: 4 fire. spell
Action: Choose a character during a conflict. Discard one fate from that character, otherwise discard it. Aligning characters gain -1(military ability)/-1(diplomatic ability) until the end of the turn, or -2military ability)/-2(diplomatic ability) if the character was discarded.
This one is a banger, one of the cards I still think of nerfing (especially for the combo it makes with Storm Rider Tensai). I based its effect on the "Wildfire Kick" kiho, but this one costs more (4 fate is something) but it really reaks havoc on the battlefield.
Reconaissance Cost: 1
Action: During a conflict choose a province. Loose from 1 to 3 honor, and incerase or decrease the province’s strenght by chosen amount, until the end of the conflict (to the minimum of 0)
Based on a Crab's event "Desolation" and Unicorn's attachement "Jewel of the Khamasin". It represents Mantis knowing the territory, and allows a player to use it both ofencively and defencively - for the right price.
Way of the Mantis Cost: 1
Action: Discard 3 honor. Choose a character - honor or dishonor it.
Each core deck needs to have one of these, so I tried to capture what would best fit the clan I've put together. For me this card offers many posibilites, very mantis-like. Very simple, you can honor your character, witch represents the Mantis pride, and gain obvious benefits. Similarly - you can dishonor your opponent's character, spreading some gossip about him, or maybe by forgery? But you can also dishonor your own character, using it for the benefit of some abilities, or you can use this card to honor a character under the control of one of the other players - it is a great way to forge some alliance, especially in the enlightment format, isn't it?

This is it for my home-made and home-tested Mantis Clan Cards. Thanks for reading through this whole rambling, and hopefully I can get some opinions and insight from you guys, so I can balance it better and implement Mantis for good into my home games.
Keep safe everybody. Peace.

New characters for Sword Masters

Hi all! So I just thought of this now, but I have a lot of characters for my series called Sword Masters. However, I'm splitting each game in the series to have either 8 to 10 new characters for each entry. I just wrote down a new ensemble cast for the 17th entry of Sword Masters. Here are the characters:
Leif Shadowquill: a 22 year old Irish-Native American tribal leader. He has a twin brother named Reid. Leif also has his own animal sanctuary where he takes care of chickens, pigs, horses, sheep, and even foxes. He uses a tribal staff and can use spiritual flames and neon water spells.
Laura Blackthorn: a 20 year old detective. She is from a US-Canadian border city in Maine. She studies supernatural techniques and has also trained with supernatural spirits like geists and spirits. She can even turn into a ghost and use psychic abilities.
Reid MacIntosh: Leif's twin brother. He is a mythology professor in Dublin. He even runs his own smith shop. He can forge many weapons like swords, spears, wands, axes, and even hammers. He's pretty close with his brother and usually helps him out at his farm.
Nanila Shahrivar: a 17 year old star actress from Mumbai. She was born in India, but grew up in the Philippines with her father and grandmother. She is one of the youngest actresses in her area, but her career is flawed to say the least. Each time she plays a role in a big movie, the director from that movie dies by a curse that was placed on her once she turned 14. It was nicknamed the Black Dahlia effect, and from there, Nanila embarks on a quest to find a shaman who might be able to help her break the curse.
Raiman Santiago: a 23 year old Hispanic playwright from Colombia. He is considered a young Shakespeare from his town and writes a lot of plays. Raiman is a respectable man, but seems to burn out easily due to his energy depleting after he finishes writing a play. He uses a feather quill and can create spells by writing out a word and having the word cause damage to his opponent.
Komari Yakumoto: a 16 year old stage singer from Kyoto. She used to be part of a girl group called Hailey's Comet. She was the lead singer for the group, but didnt want to stay as a singer forever. She likes teaching and always wanted to be a music teacher for middle schoolers. However, she signed a contract to be a girl group singer until she turns 18, and can not attend college until her contract is up. Komari can sing in 5 octaves and uses her voice as a weapon. She can use her voice as a banshee scream, or put her foes to sleep.
Wolf Chaoliang: a 25 year old biologist. He earned his degree from Xuchang University and works at the Beijing Institute of Medicine as a fauna specialist. He assists in studying the different organ systems of humans and animals, and even performs surgical procedures on tumors. After each surgery, he analyzes the organ and tries to take tissue from each organ to create medicine from the tissue he has analyzed. Wolf uses beaker bombs and can even ingest chemicals to boost his defenses or attack, or even throw organ bombs at his foes to weaken their defenses.
Priskia Stepanova: a 24 year old Russian gambler. She is a master manipulator at bending the rules, so much so that she plays her own version of roulette. Though, this is her way of getting out of sticky situations with men as she's actually a domestic violence survivor. She was in a forced relationship with a crime lord's henchman and things got ugly. The way she got out of the relationship was playing a game of roulette and winning against the same crime lord who forced her into a relationship. Priskia uses a dice bomb and roulette chips to stun her enemies and can manipulate the planes of time to either knock out her opponents or even escape.
Let me know what you think. What are your thoughts on these characters? Are there things I can change or improve on?

I had the AI make a list of the top 10 JoJo villains. I’m not quite sure this is accurate to the show...

TOP 10 JOJO'S BIZARRE ADVENTURE VILLAINS:
  1. The Clown
The Clown is a character that has appeared in many anime and manga series, but never really made it into the West. He's usually just a clown with some sort of evil laugh who likes to cause chaos wherever he goes. In JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, however, he's actually pretty creepy. He looks like a cross between a clown and an old man wearing blackface. He also wears red shoes that are covered in holes and his face is painted red too (which makes him look even creepier). His main purpose seems to be to be a recurring antagonist for Dio Brando.
  1. Mr. X
Mr. X is one of the most famous villains from the JoJo universe, and probably one of the best-known villains in all fiction at this point. His story has been adapted into more than one game, and it was even one of the villains in the first season of the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure anime. Mr. X has an incredibly simple but great design. He's just a tall, skinny man with spiked blond hair and a menacing grin. Despite his strange appearance, he's actually incredibly strong, and has all your standard supervillain abilities like teleportation, energy beams, and super speed.
  1. The Sun
The Sun is a weird villain because he doesn't really have an origin story. Instead, all that's known about him is that he dresses as the sun, and has incredible powers over the sun itself. He can cause heatwaves that can melt steel, cause the sky to be pitch black even at noon, and other things of that nature. He's appeared in a few JoJo's Bizarre Adventure video games, where he seems to be more of a force of nature rather than an actual being with free will.
  1. Bruford With a name like "Bruford," you know this guy is going to be evil. But with an outfit like his (featuring a top hat and tails) you also know he's not going to be able to resist taking the stage and delivering a villainous monologue. He's another one of the more famous JoJo villains, and the main antagonist of Part 3. He gets a lot of character development as well, which is always good in a villain. He's a bit of a classist, considering he believes that lower class folks like the Joestars shouldn't get a higher education. Despite being one of Dio's followers, he doesn't really take Dio seriously most of the time.
  2. D'arby the Gambler This guy has a really weird design and an even weirder ability. He has purple dice for eyes, wears a tuxedo, and carries around a deck of cards. His weird ability is that he can make anything happen according to how a person bets. If you bet that you can jump off a building and not get hurt, then he'll make it so you win that bet...by having you jump off a building and kill yourself. If you bet that you can lift a car, then he'll make it so you can. It's a really weird ability, and makes for an interesting fight.
  3. Halloween Halloween is the perfect example of the quote "The enemy of my enemy is my friend." While not an antagonist in the series, she fights Dio in the final battle of Part 2, and depending on your choices can become an ally for Parts 3 and 4. She can control shadows, and despite being a half-vampire (her father was a vampire, her mother a human), she fights against Dio out of revenge for making her turn into a vampire and then discarding her.
  4. The World The World is an incredibly powerful being who appears as an ever-growing mass of muscle with a single eye in its center. It has incredible strength, able to destroy mountains with a single punch, and can only be harmed by Joseph Joestar, whose fists become extremely large when he fights the World. It represents the end of the game, as it reappears whenever you beat the game. It's a very interesting enemy.
  5. Lisa Lisa One of the best characters in the series, Lisa Lisa is Joseph Joestar's friend and rival in Part 2. She starts off as an antagonist, but after being defeated joins your team. She's a master of the Ripple and is able to take out entire hordes of zombies using only her hands. She's incredibly strong, smart, and a great fighter.
  6. Dio Brando Many JoJo villains are memorable for their outlandish designs and personalities, but Dio is the only one who can truly be called evil. Not even the other antagonists of the series want anything more than to rule the world; Dio just wants everyone to die. He's able to control his own blood, which he can also turn into wolves. He's cold, ruthless, and is the main antagonist of the first part of the series.
  7. Jonathan Joestar Not including the final villain, this guy is the true final boss of the first part of the series. He is incredibly strong, able to destroy zombies in a single punch, and also quite intelligent, inventing various weapons to fight Dio. He's the only JoJo who could fight Dio on an equal footing during the first arc of the series. Thanks for reading! If you think I forgot a character, or put someone in the wrong spot, please tell me in the comments.

gambler dice game rules video

Begin the game by facing the second chair and saying the words, “Let’s play.” You may feel a slight chill; if you do, do not be concerned. If you do not, however, do not proceed. Deal the Gambler his hand; then play your first move. When it is the Gambler’s turn, you must help him play by laying down cards randomly from his hand. Get the first player to roll the 3 game dice. Once you have determined who will go first, give the first player the 3 game dice. In LCR, players only roll as many dice as they have chips in their possession. Because this is the first turn, every player will have 3 chips. Therefore, every player will roll all 3 dice during the first round. Casino dice games are popular with gamblers all over the globe. The 6-sided cube dice we use today were born in China roughly 2600 years ago. Back then, dice were used strictly for fortune telling, but somewhere along the way that shifted.Dice began being used as entertainment, and dice games were created. Sic Bo Game: Sic Bo Rules and Best Strategy Tips. (or the game software “rolls” the dice and shows their random outcomes) Gambler’s fallacy is a common myth in gambling. Players who bet “Cho” are betting that the sum of the dice will be an even number (2, 4, 6, 8, 10, or 12). Players who bet “Han” are betting that the sum of the dice will be an odd number (3, 5, 7, 9, or 11). When players bet against each other, typically, the same number of players will bet “Cho” as bet “Han.”. For a game to be considered a game of dice, it needed two or more players who roll the dice per that game's rules. Medieval dice games were, in effect, inviting people to gamble due to their enticing nature as well as their simplicity and diversity of application. Many combinations of two dice can result in an “8” shoot—2 and 6, 1 and 7, etc. These are called the “easy way.”. A “Hard 8”–the hardway of 8–is from a pair of dice, or 4 and 4. Players can bet on a shoot to land on a “Hard 4,” “Hard 6,” “Hard 8,” or “Hard 10” to bet on a matched pair of dice. The first person to reach a certain money level wins the game. The centerpiece of the game is a unique dice shaker that randomizes the dice and has them fall into the handle so that players can bet on the order that the dice fall in (where the highest die will be located, for example). Craps game is one of the most exciting and noisiest casino games, as it usually gathers crowds of people, aiming to win much money and spend their time with pleasure. The game rules and its running is a great base for the excellent movie. There a lot of craps movies, but we recommend you to watch the best of them!more... On a player’s turn, they may roll the dice up to three times. While doing so, players are trying to build the best combination possible. During their turn, player’s may keep or reroll as many dice as they wish. Once a player is satisfied with their dice combination (or has rolled three times), their turn is over.
